Gerdau in Wilton, IA is looking for a Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic to join our team!

This position starts at $25.31/hour + sign on bonus program!

 

Job Summary:

Perform various maintenance and repairs to keep mobile equipment, mobile cranes, railcars, locomotive, plant facilities, tools and property in working order.  Work involves a wide variety of skills including knowledge in direct current electrical, alternating current electrical, diesel and gas motors, pneumatic and hydraulics, welding, fabrication, etc.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Work involves duties pertaining primarily to maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of heavy mobile equipment, several different types of mobile cranes and auxiliary scrap handling equipment.
  2. Tear down, replace, repair, assemble, and install standard equipment components and accessories.     
  3. Adjust, clean, lubricate, and service all mobile equipment.
  4. Communicate with mobile equipment operators to determine what components have failed and cause of failure.                             
  5. Troubleshoot mobile equipment component problems using service and maintenance manuals provided with equipment.                                  
  6. Complete daily checklist on equipment operated daily and ensure it is maintained in proper working order.
  7. Maintain records of equipment repairs.
  8. Perform a wide variety of preventive maintenance activities on all mobile equipment.     
  9. Maintain a reasonable supply of critical spare parts to minimize downtime.
  10. Perform work in maintenance crafts as necessary such as burning, welding, fabricating, and machining, and other duties and work assignments as required and directed.
  11. Follow all plant and company safety guidelines in the performance of all job duties and responsibilities.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Follow all safety guidelines when performing repairs on plant equipment.
  2. Assist with plant housekeeping efforts and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed.
  3. When operating mobile equipment and/or overhead cranes, follow all prescribed safety guidelines and perform daily checks to ensure equipment is maintained in proper working order.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Passing required proficiency test
  • Mechanic work experience in an industrial environment performing the technical requirements and skills developed and sought by the Wilton Mill
  • Passing required physicals
