Your Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree OR equivalent work experience and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the logistics environment or warehouse.
  • Familiarity of major rail road sites, freight rates, and procedures is a plus.
  • Must have general knowledge of tender roll processes, department of transportation freight regulations, and securement processes.
  • Competencies in freight cost control, delivery quality, and efficiency.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge with MS Office, Cloud, ERP systems.
  • Proficiency in data analytics, communication, mathematics, critical thinking.
  • General knowledge of DOT requirements and North American geography.
  • Ability to work in a high demanding, integrated manner to solve complex problems.

You Might Also Have:

  • Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) such as Transporeon or Oracle.
  • Experience with production management systems such as SAP or QMOS.

 

Your Purpose:

In this critical role, you will effectively and efficiently manage the finished goods transportation processes between mills, customers, and suppliers. You will be responsible for carrier relations and act as a liaison with the commercial and mill operations team. You will assist with the freight strategy and manage the freight procurements and payments. You will also be responsible for safety records and concerns with drivers and carriers.

 

Your Work:

  • Maintain regular communication with the inside sales team to ensure cost and service goals are achieved
    • Validate delivery and shipment documents and communicate with Sales
    • Prioritize load tendering based on communications received by Sales following order management guidelines
  • Work closely with carriers to dispatch all transportation modes and schedule pick-up and on-time deliveries for internal and external customers
    • Tender shipments through transportation management software or direct tender if priority dictates
    • Monitor the shipment tendering process to ensure the system is accurately tendering according to established criteria
    • Generate internal transfer orders utilizing transfer Purchase Order generated by Mills or Downstream locations
  • Coordinate return movements due to order/shipment errors or customer complaints
  • Monitor and perform a periodic audit of the freight payment process and manage freight expenses for the location
  • Assist non-Logistics processes with special outbound/inbound moves when needed
  • Support mill inventory management functions including cycle counting, aged inventory management, and production reconciliation
  • Manage customer exceptions and freight claims gathering further details and performing the initial investigation
  • Support Mill and Regional Logistics Managers’ carrier management and freight negotiation activities
    • Assess current freight rates according to the market
    • Identify and evaluate carriers in the market
    • Prepare market intelligence analysis of the local market
