Job Description

 

Reporting to the Rolling Mill Routine Facilitator, the Production Supervisor provides leadership to and oversees unionized hourly employees in hot rolled bar production and packaging on an assigned shift in the Bar Mill.   The incumbent will direct production activities to meet process and product specifications, quality standards and safety regulations. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  1. Oversee and supervise a shift of 12 process operators to ensure safe and reliable operation of plant production equipment to prevent damage and minimize repair
  2. Ensure that all employees work in accordance with all Company policies and procedures and document and report immediately any violations to the Manager
  3. Ensure throughout the shift that proper methods and procedures are being followed and that quality, safety, environment standards are being met
  4. Manage procedure sign-offs and conduct regular safety and process audits
  5. Maintain good Employee relations, through training, evaluation, discipline and  consistent application of the collective agreement
  6. Assist in the Diagnosis and subsequent solutions of breakdowns and repairs
  7. Work in collaboration with the production team and other departments (Maintenance, Warehouse, etc.)
  8. Prepare and submit daily reports on production, individuals, and overall shift performance
  9. Departmental housekeeping – promote and actively develop 5S methodology
  10. Lead team activities to improve goals
  11. Ensure all environmental practices and guidelines are followed
  12. Assist Department Manager to develop safety and environmental conscious team by ensuring team and safety meetings are held regularly and overall safety performance is assessed and reviewed during monthly crew meetings
  13. Conduct accident and incident investigations and completes required forms to determine root cause to prevent future reoccurrences  

 

 

The Individual

 

  • High school diploma or GED required; post secondary diploma/certification preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Steel industry or heavy industrial production environment experience preferred
  • Familiar with supervising in a unionized facility
  • Good leadership, technical, and troubleshooting skills
