Basic Function

To market and trade all non-ferrous materials purchased, sorted, packaged and produced by Gerdau. The incumbent will be responsible for the global transaction and sale of non-ferrous metals and direct the efforts, actions and decision making of direct reports and scrap yard personnel. To monitor international market information and use influencing, negotiating and sales skills to ensure sales goals and objectives are met.

Nature and Scope



Reporting directly to the Metals Recycling Commercial Director, the Non-Ferrous Commercial Manager performs managerial and administrative duties pertaining to the profitable sale of all non-ferrous products. A strong knowledge of the global metals market, financial analysis techniques and utilizing the framework and methodology available through Gerdau Business Systems will be essential to the success of the incumbent. Duties will include a broad scope of sales and marketing responsibilities, required to be performed with autonomy and minimal functional guidance with the exception of Company policy.


The incumbent should possess an explicit knowledge of the relevant markets and market segments, being familiar with non-ferrous materials, steel/metal, raw materials, recycling and metals processing. Qualifying experience in a comparably demanding position with a global scope, including significant exposure to non-ferrous sales, and experience in the management of two or more direct reports.  A post-secondary education in Business Administration or Marketing Management is strongly recommended.


In order to attain sales goals, the incumbent directs the activities of Gerdau Traders, systematically reviewing their performance and results to ensure efficient and accurate functioning in fundamental areas. The Non-Ferrous Commercial Manager ensures that direct reports receive adequate education and skills development in accordance with the performance management process, to develop their full potential. The incumbent makes recommendations as to employee transfers and promotions that are in the best interests of Gerdau.


The Non-Ferrous Commercial Manager plans, organizes, develops, implements and continually monitors a comprehensive external sales program to achieve the profit objectives identified in both long and short term plans. A significant awareness and attention to global market conditions must be paid, so as appropriate and timely decisions can be rendered.


The incumbent of this position will have responsibility over the Metals Recycling Annual Action Plans and improvement projects as they pertain to external non-ferrous sales. The incumbent will not only be required to participate in the planning, communicating and executing of action plans but will also assist in the achieving of results for action plans by offering expertise where and when required. 


The incumbent is responsible for comprehending, adhering to and promoting compliance obligations in the best interest of Gerdau, not limited to but including Organizational policies and procedures and the Gerdau Code of Ethics and Business Conduct; most specifically Insider Trading and Information Security.


As the incumbent will be working extensively with 24 Gerdau Scrap Processing and Shredder Divisions, he/she must be capable of adapting too many varied situations, circumstances and personalities at all levels. Considerable business travel is required of this position. The incumbent must be self-disciplined in character, a self-starter and have the ability to effectively plan and establish/maintain priorities.  



Principle Accountabilities


  1. Oversee the purchase and sale of all non-ferrous materials in Canada and USA for Recycling and Shredder operations ensuring maximum value for all products sold to third parties.


  1. Strong knowledge of global market information for non-ferrous product sales in the international market and market segments.


  1. Develop, implement and monitor accurate sales plans, goals and objectives.


  1. Direct the activities of Gerdau Traders, systematically reviewing their performance and results to ensure efficient and accurate functioning in fundamental areas


  1. Participate in the planning, communicating and executing of action plans in order to achieve results.


  1. Comprehend, adhere to and promote compliance obligations in the best interest of Gerdau.


  1. Continual improvement of management skills through skills training and personal development.


  1. This position can be physically located at one of the two major shredders in Midlothian, Texas or Whitby, Ontario with considerable business travel.



The incumbent must perform the above mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance to federal, provincial and local environmental regulations.  Employees must also report any situation, which may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.
