Job Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Melt Shop General Foreman/Manager, this position is primarily accountable for the supervision of a full operating shift of the Melt Shop. While the incumbent is restricted in decision making in certain areas (major breakdowns, serious labor problems, selection of materials), incumbent is given considerable latitude in the operation of the shift. Reporting to the incumbent are twenty five (25) production workers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing and maintaining a safe work environment for employees and assuring enforcement of safety practices and regulations.
Oversee and supervise a shift of 25 employees to ensure safe and reliable operation of plant production and shipping equipment to prevent damage and minimize repair
Ensure that all employees work in accordance with all Company policies and procedures and document and report immediately any violations to the Manager
Ensure throughout the shift that proper methods and procedures are being followed and that quality, safety, environment standards are being met
Maintain good Employee relations, through training, evaluation, discipline and consistent application of the collective agreement
Work in collaboration with the production team and other departments (Maintenance, Warehouse, etc.)
Prepare and submit daily reports on production, individuals, and overall shift performance
Departmental housekeeping – promote and actively develop 5S methodology
Lead team activities to improve goals
Ensure all environmental practices and guidelines are followed
Assist Department Manager to develop safety and environmental conscious team by ensuring team and safety meetings are held regularly and overall safety performance is assessed and reviewed during monthly crew meetings
Conduct accident and incident investigations and completes required forms to determine root cause to prevent future reoccurrences
Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this position will have production supervision experience and have experience supervising in a unionized environment.
High School Diploma or GED
A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
Steel industry or heavy industrial production environment experience preferred
Familiar with supervising in a unionized facility
Good leadership, technical, and troubleshooting skills
SAP experience is a plus
Kronos experience is a plus
