Great opportunity for a Class A CDL Driver in the Waynesboro/Charlottesville area.  Will be traveling regionally out of the Waynesboro Metals Recycling yard. Will report to Waynesboro yard at the beginning of each shift. Standard shift is Monday- Friday with some weekend work.  Starting pay is $21.29 an hour.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Operate standard factory-equipped diesel straight truck and tractor with roll-off trailers, dump trailers and van trailers to pick-up a variety of steel products and accessory items from Gerdau steel suppliers. Follow standard or prescribed methods or procedures. Work involves a complete range of duties, somewhat repetitive and routine in nature, requiring considerable care to drive tractor/trailer vehicle in a correct and safe manner, in safety of load, and compliance with all DOT laws, rules, and regulations. Must comply with all Gerdau and supplier safety standards. Good working conditions in closed truck cab free from weather elements except in occasional unloading.  Subject to some noise, vibration and fumes, but none to the extent of being disagreeable.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Make deliveries and/or pick-ups, operating from verbal, written or electronic instructions, invoices, bills of lading, shipping tickets, etc.
  • Keep accurate and legible records such as Driver’s Trip Reports, Driver’s Daily Log, Vehicle Inspection Report, and Driver’s Weekly Expense Report.
  • Maintain polite, courteous and diplomatic relations with either customers, receivers or suppliers with whom contact is made. May be required to contact supplier for location/placement of roll-off bin.
  • Assist loading or unloading; unload without help as necessary; tie down load with chains or cinches; attach markers for overhang.

 

Additional Responsibilities

 

  • Clean vehicle on a regular basis.
  • Perform other duties and work assignments as required.
  • Detect and report faulty material, improper operations and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in a clean and orderly condition. 
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations and practices - heavy responsibility for the safety of others (employees and public).  Constant care necessary to prevent injury to self or others.
  • Responsible for material or product delivery in good condition without loss or shortage.  

 

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

 

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Must have a current/valid Class A CDL; Tanker and HazMat endorsement(s) is plus.
  • Must have at least 9 months of experience with large mobile equipment or hauling vehicles and have the ability to become familiar with locations and routine.
  • Smartphone/web experience required. The trucks are equipped with GPS. Computer skills including Microsoft Office and internet based applications. SAP experience is helpful.
  • Familiar with traffic regulations and load restrictions.  Able to read, write, add, and subtract and to follow written or verbal instructions.
  • Requires the use of judgment to comply with instructions, laws and safety regulations; determine routes; maintain good customer relations.
  • Light physical effort consisting of continuous light exertion in driving, frequent effort in tying down loads and assisting unloading.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention in coordinating a good degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.
