This position, reporting to the Engineering Manager, is responsible for local ARP practice implementation and improvement. The Reliability Engineer is primarily responsible for increasing asset availability through the utilization of ARP reliability tools, methods, and practices. Activities require engineering and/or maintenance-based experience in mechanical and/or electrical equipment, preferably those used in steel manufacturing processes and facilities. This position will participate in special projects and engineering activities to improve equipment reliability optimize maintenance costs and reduce equipment downtime.  The Reliability Engineer will participate in annual outage planning processes to minimize downtime and ensure all maintenance performance will achieve equipment reliability.  Due to the nature of manufacturing operations the incumbent may be required to be on-call and must be available for specific operations or projects. Some travel may be required for training and to support projects.

 

Basic Function:

Reliability Engineer will provide technical coordination and support for implementing and sustaining Asset Reliability Processes (ARP) to improve safety, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs by:

  • Detect potential failures using predictive technologies. 
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret operational data.  
  • Study operations and failures to lower costs and improve equipment reliability and energy efficiency.
  • Implement improved engineering designs and procedures through collaboration with operations, maintenance, engineering, and suppliers. 
  • Ensure the integrity of the Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and standard procedures.
  • Participate in the development of the Annual Action Plans and Annual Budgets.
  • Train operators and maintenance on ARP practices.
  • Ensure critical inspections are completed and reviewed, with follow up action plans executed.

 

Additional Duties:

  • Collect, analyze, and report asset performance and work with teams to implement methods to improve performance and sustain existing efficiencies.
  • Develop solutions and provide recommendations for major equipment modifications, renovations, installations, additions, and replacements to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Support planning and scheduling standard processes to effectively execute all down-days and outages.
  • Participate in ARP assessments to evaluate ARP practice effectiveness and develop improvement plans.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability personnel to ensure the reliability of equipment on all existing and new assets.
  • Participate in technical studies on equipment and develop corrective action plans to maximize availability and reliability.
  • Facilitate training sessions and assist in identification of skill development needs for plant personnel and contractors to support ARP, maintenance, and safety.
  • Identify critical equipment spares, material, component needs, and coordinate with maintenance, procurement, and stores to identify re-order processes/quantities to minimize downtime by using Reliability Centered Maintenance methodologies.
  • Participate in Failure Analysis on maintenance issues.
  • Assist with Annual Action Planning process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree in Engineering or Material Science is required.
  • Two years of industrial experience.
  • Must have knowledge of asset reliability technology and systems, with a working knowledge of heavy manufacturing.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering concepts and techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Predictive Maintenance (PdM) techniques or other ARP tools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with associates at all levels within the organization.
  • Must be able to solve problems, demonstrate project management skills and have passion to lead change.
