You Have:         

  • Four-year college degree from an accredited university required
  • Seven to ten years of experience, respectively in the area of expertise in health administration) including active and retiree populations, for a comparably sized public company. 
  • Minimum of three years in a supervisory position, supervising a staff tasked with plan administration/customer service and/or compliance and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage and develop staff.  Knowledge of both areas of expertise is also helpful.
  • CEBS, CBP or SPHR preferred, as well as, experience including Work-life program achievements (ie vacation, leaves, disability, tuition and scholarships). 
  • Candidate must possess significant knowledge in administrative best practices and regulations impacting the administration of employee benefits (including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA and ARRA, DOL, PGBC). 
  • Experience regarding compliance, outsourcing, legal matters, technology and working with consultants is essential.
  • Exceptional project and process management skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment. 
  • Experience with a foreign owner is preferred.
  • The candidate must have experience integrating benefits plans following corporate actions such as mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, divestitures and plant closings.

Your Purpose:

This position reports directly to the Manager, Benefits Administration. Primary responsibilities include the implementation and administration of health and welfare (medical, dental, vision, disability, EAP and FSA plans); corporate policies, practices, and programs for all levels of company personnel, including both union and non-union groups and retirees. This includes supporting two major divisions (Long Steel and Special Steel). Functions include project prioritization, policy and procedures development, significant vendor management and consultative services. Oversee plan activities and processes that align with company’s benefits/total rewards philosophy, business roadmap, culture and compliance per laws and regulations. Also, may include coordinating plan compliance reviews and taking actions as approved by the Benefits Administration Committee.  Responsible for coordination of annual plan audits and 5500 filings as well as assisting the Finance Department in meeting reporting and funding obligations. Serve as business partner and consultant to the Director, People charged with union negotiations, and to the Director, Total Rewards.

 

Your Work:

  • Ensure that all programs are efficiently and accurately administered in compliance with applicable federal/state regulations and company policy, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Oversee administration of the company’s (and its subsidiaries’) benefits plans, covering active union & non-union employee, families, retirees - emphasizing exceptional customer service.
  • Experience with employee communication strategy and deployment. This includes an emphasis on digital and print employee communications to meet the needs of employees, families and retirees.
  • Develop/implement department & company goals, including performance metrics.
  • Manage the impact of plan changes (consolidation, integration, etc.) following acquisitions, restructuring, and other corporate actions.
  • Review and make recommendations for the use of technology to cost-effectively streamline administration. Identify other opportunities for plan and process improvements.
  • Supervise the daily activities of staff and provide career development guidance. Also, other duties as may be assigned from time to time to support Total Rewards, both benefits and compensation objectives and periodic Human Resources initiatives.
  • Act as internal expert on company benefits plans and authority on technical interpretation of plan provisions and corresponding plan documents. Also, potentially serve on committees/VEBA boards & act as HIPPA Privacy Manager.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to benefits as well as familiarity with best administrative practices
  • Develop, collaborate and maintain successful relationships with external vendors, including:  plan providers, attorneys, auditors, consultants and actuaries.  Participate in contract negotiations with vendors. Also, similar relationships with internal partners, including: Human Resources, Legal, Finance, Payroll, Audit, Employee Services, Unions and IT Departments.
