Duties and Responsibilities

An Intern with Gerdau must have an eagerness to grow personally and professionally as part of a global company with more than 110 years of entrepreneurship and achievements in the steel industry. This program is for individuals with high learning agility and willingness to adapt and develop continuously, and who aim at consistently outperforming in a variety of settings and circumstances.


During the program you will interact with team members from around the world. You will have the opportunity to learn on the job and work on challenging projects that will further your development. Under the guidance of our internal comms department, you will do more than the average internship. Beyond administrative duties, you will walk away with tangible examples of your work, including campaign strategies, materials, and implementations.


Internal Communications Responsibilities


  • Create campaign content, such as video, feature articles, photos, and graphics. Training is provided for video (Premiere Pro) and graphics design, but the curiosity to learn and be creative is a must.
  • Analyze data analytics from our email tracking system, Bananatag, to identify trends in most popular content, subject line length, and optimal times for email sends.



  • Utilize our communications improvement tools – digital signage (MangoSigns), email tracking system (Bananatag), and content creation platform (Canva) – and reinforce, train, and develop users on the tools. Collaborate with training and development team to create official trainings on the tools and upload into our Learning Management System.
  • Assist in the implementation of our recruitment branding strategy, including updates to our jobs site, experimenting with interactive content, and onboarding users onto our Canva enterprise platform.



  • Co-manage the internal communications inbox and send important announcements on behalf of executives, teams, and our company.
  • Arrange North America event invites, such as to webinars and trainings, and occasional planning of events.



  • Have completed at least two years* of a university degree from a recognized accredited college or university in Mass Communications (or variants of mass communications, such as public relations, journalism, production, or graphic design), English, Business Administration, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Labor Relations, Human Resources Management, Organizational Management, or Adult Education.
  • Record of high academic achievement: Interns must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 out of 4.0 overall grade point average. Coop students must follow the requirements for their specific cooperative.
  • Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment
  • Candidates must demonstrate leadership potential, strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, initiative, problem-solving skills, deadline orientation to meet the fast pace of the company’s agile mindset, and an enthusiastic personality.
  • Working knowledge of training and development, photography, video, and/or graphic design or the desire to learn communications is preferred. 
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
