Responsible for the administration and support of U.S. and Canadian benefits, compensation, global mobility and other Total Rewards plans and programs that attract, retain and motivate employees.


This position will participate in the development, implementation, compliance, administration and communication of Total Rewards programs at Gerdau Long Steel North America (GLN) and Gerdau Specialty Steel North America (GSN). 




This position reports to the Supervisor, Total Rewards and is considered a Tampa Office Center of Excellence resource and will support North American operations.  The Total Rewards Analyst will work with all North American customer groups and business units including Tampa Office functional departments, Mills, Downstream and Reinforcing Steel, and Metallics/Raw Materials.


The qualifications for this job are:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredidated university required; areas of study in Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2-4 years experience in Total Rewards area(s) such as health and welfare, retirement and savings plans, and/or compensation/executive compensation. 
  • Third Party Administrator experience is a plus.
  • CEBS, GBA or CCP certifications preferred.
  • Experience with union and non-union facilities is a plus.
  • Familiar with best practices, laws, requirements, and regulations impacting the administration of Total Rewards programs and plans.





  • Candidates should have a fundamental knowledge of Total Rewards concepts, practices and procedures and a strong analytical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to adapt to many varied situations, circumstances, and personalities at all levels within and outside the company.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets, assess trends or patterns and make recommendations based on data (quantitative) and situational factors (qualitative). 
  • Must be able to simplify data to arrive at main conclusions, key presentation and discussion points.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to communicate with leaders at all levels in the organization needed. 
  • Signficant experience with the use of HR systems/relational data bases (SAP experience prefer but not required) and query/report development.
  • MS office proficiency and Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Ability to interpret functional and vendor specifications.
  • Ability to keep abreast of changes in Total Rewards-related laws, requirements, and regulations by participating in workshops, attending seminars, forums, and subscribing to information services.





  • Ensures that all day to day activities associated with the management of Total Rewards programs and plans are efficiently and accurately administered in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policy, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Participate and provide support during annual/regular processes in the Total Rewards department.  Examples may include Total Rewards online system updates or open enrollment.
  • Partner with and support field HR requests related to Health & Welfare benefits.
  • Participate in surveys and benchmarking activities that support the Total Rewards area on a regular (i.e., annual) or ad-hoc basis.
  • Assist, respond to and support audit requests from external and internal parties.  Document internal processes, procedures and administration as appropriate for audit requirements. Facilitates annual audit preparation and completion.
  • Develop and document internal processes and procedures to support consistency, process improvement and simplicity in the Total Rewards area.
  • Support special projects and GLN/GSN wide actions, including union negotiations, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, layoffs, reductions in force and location closings or start-ups.
  • Proactively identifies Total Rewards challenges and opportunities and recommends creative and practical solutions and strategies to resolve challenges and/or capitalize on opportunities.
  • Assists in the development of training / educational programs and participates in the delivery of Total Rewards training. 
  • This position will assist with and support special projects across the Total Rewards department to include compensation and benefits (both health and welfare and retirement) as needed or as appropriate.  The ability to work cross functionally within Total Rewards is a requirement.
  • Partner and work in collaboration with many cross-functional departments such as Payroll, Benefits, Recruiting, Global Mobility, Career and Succession, Training and Development, etc. on company-wide initiatives and multi-department projects.
  • Ensure constant data integrity with internal systems (ex: SAP), external systems (ex: TR Portal, Benefits Center), vendor file interfaces, etc.
  • Primary liaison with IT and Shared Services in the development, testing, implementation, and post-production review of all SAP changes and configuration requests related to Total Rewards.
  • Acts as center of excellence for preparing complicated reports and presentations for department members.
  • Assists with analyzing data to assist management with department budget monitoring (Expense Management).  Assists with budget reviews and monitoring payments.
  • Assists with reconciliation, payment and monitoring of vendors. This may include Accounts Payable payments, and analyzing performance standards for outside Total Rewards vendors.
  • Coordinates the drafting and execution of Plan Document Amendments and Plan Restatements.
  • Distributes all required notices, such as Funding Notices, Summary Annual Reports (SAR), Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD) and Summary of Material Modifications (SMM), etc.
  • Develops employee Total Rewards communications and education.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
