This position will report to the Rolling Mill Superintendent. The successful candidate will assist other Improvement and Routine Facilitators within the area, as well other Departments, depending on the scope of work in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of all improvement aspects within its area of responsibility. The major role of this job is to focus on continuous process improvement, integration of technical and engineering principles and identify best practices consistent with the application of Gerdau’s Business Systems. This candidate ultimately as a change agent to help the Department or Plant achieve a higher level of results by utilizing and implementing improvement processes.

Some activities to be done are to coordinate improvement Projects, to assist in failure analysis, to compare, to do audit performance to existing standards, to update standards when needed and to develop appropriate corrective actions for compliance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MSc preferred, in Materials / Metallurgy / Mechanical or Chemistry Engineering.
  • 8 or more years experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with exposure to standardization and production quality methods.
  • Must have an extensive knowledge of steel manufacturing methods and techniques involving the use of rolling mill machinery and related equipment.
  • Previous qualifying experience in rolling / steelmaking process.
  • Experience in leading initiatives in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM and knowledge of business systems. Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 quality system
  • The candidate should be experienced with advanced problem-solving techniques with a high aptitude for math and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrate an extensive knowledge of the business system and the use of complex technical and engineering processes.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to train, coach and guide operators in new steel making processes.
  • Must be comfortable with integrating new technology into an existing business environment.
  • The incumbent should possess solid presentation abilities combined with good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • People management skills and interpersonal skills is a must.
  • Willingness to work any shifts as needed – primarily a day shift position.
