Job Summary:

 

Plans, organizes, and leads a plant shift.  Responsible for detailing schedules, enforcing safety, ensuring quality, and monitoring production requirements.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Assign work to production operations utilizing daily production schedules, work orders and verbal instructions.
  2. Coordinate the production, warehousing, and material transfer of product and supplies.
  3. Check work in process and inventory labels to ensure proper product identification and adherence to production quantity and quality levels. 
  4. Diagnose quality and production problems and take corrective action.
  5. Assist others with machine maintenance, repairs, and set-up operations.
  6. Train new employees in all areas of the plant.
  7. Compile machine and shift production reports related to tonnage, product type, and inventory levels.
  8. Report performance or discipline problems to supervisor.
  9. Report accidents that occur to appropriate personnel, and write up reports documenting the occurrence.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  1. Meet with maintenance to optimize preventative maintenance downtimes in accordance with production schedules.
  2. Perform inventory reconciliation to validate that production is equal to consumption.

 

Safety:

 

  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately.
  • Follow all safety rules and requirements of work area.
  • Participate openly in all safety meetings and investigations.
  • Report and correct all unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Participate in Safety In Action System activities.

EDUCATION

Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation.  Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training.

EXPERIENCE

Three to five years.

INITIATIVE

AND INGENUITY

Requires the use of considerable judgment to plan and perform unusual and difficult work where only general methods are available, and the making of broad decisions involving considerable initiative and ingenuity.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Moderate physical effort.

MENTAL OR VISUAL DEMAND

Concentrated mental and visual attention in laying out or otherwise performing complex work to very close limits of high accuracy and quality; or in coordinating a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT OR PROCESS

Damages, should they occur to equipment or process would be of minor consequence.  Damages seldom over $250.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIAL OR PRODUCT

Damages, should they occur to material or products would have moderate consequences.  Damages, though unlikely to occur, would seldom be over $2500.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFETY OF OTHERS

Inattention, thoughtlessness or improper operation of equipment or performance of duties may cause lost-time injury to others.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS

Responsible for 10 to 25 people.

Good working conditions.  Exposed to any number of elements but with none continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable.
