Job Description

 

The objective of the Metallurgical Process Engineer is to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the Melt Shop and Rolling Mill.   This is accomplished through the application of the available tools provided including GBS and the use of other technical and engineering principles.  The Metallurgical Process Engineer will coordinate these activities directly with the appropriate Area Leader, Routine Facilitator Lead, and employees within the Melt Shop and Rolling Mill.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  1. Ability to work rotating shift schedules with employees on crew and manage workflows for the group and team for area results
  2.  Identify opportunities for improvement within the Melt Shop and Rolling Mill and approve standards developed from these efforts 
  3. Responsible for developing and implementing activities that support the annual action plan specifically as they relate to improvement projects 
  4. Design or develop new or alterations to existing structures, systems, and equipment 
  5. Provide timely and accurate cost estimates on proposed improvement efforts 
  6. Support and participate in CAPEX projects         
  7. Develop and coach employees capabilities and knowledge in job related activities
  8. Participate and contribute to the achievement of department goals including goal setting
  9. Responsible for data entry into GMR and/or other systems utilized for tracking goals and projects
  10. Assist with safety related activities within the area

 

 

The Individual

 

  • Four year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering/Material Science is preferred OR a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of steel manufacturing methods and techniques involving the use of heavy mill machinery and related equipment. 
  • Previous qualifying experience on related work or lesser jobs of 2 – 4 years with practical training pertaining to scrap processing, melting, casting, rolling, maintenance, finishing, and/or shipping/warehousing operations, and to include some supervisory and facilitation experience.
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of business systems and the use of complex technical and engineering processes.
