Offline Saw Operator

Job Summary:

 

Facilitate all off-line processes that are required to fill special orders for customers by cutting product to unique customer specifications or modifying existing inventory by cutting finished product to meet shipment needs.

 

Assist in a variety of functions related to the Logistics Department, and specific to the offline process, which includes the filling of all special orders and product reclamation according to ASTM standards. Will report to the assigned Routine Facilitator.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Facilitate all off-line processes that are required to fill all special orders for customers.
  2. Operate automated radial band saw and conveyor system.
  3. Uses Rolling Schedules to determine which product needs to be customized.
  4. Make adjustments to inventory as required, such as processing Offline Roll (cutting finished product to meet customer specs or needed inventory), identifying shortages, and determining what material will be used to cover orders.
  5. Produce new tag for modified/cut product and verify that the product matches all orders placed.
  6. Perform all other duties as assigned. This position may be required to help and fill for other Logistics positions and job duties.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  1. Perform daily preventative maintenance, records, and inspection on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.
  2. Assist in training of coworkers as needed.
  3. Operate mobile equipment and overhead cranes to transfer product or materials while following all safety rules and regulations.
  4. Execute general 5S activities in the work area.

   

Education/Experience:

 

  • 1-3 years of product distribution experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completed Gerdau safety training.
  • Completed Gerdau forklift certification training and electric overhead crane training.
  • Certified forklift operator.
  • Instructed in all AAR rail road regulations.
  • Instructed in all DOT regulations.

                                                                 

Specifically for Offline Operations

  • Training in quality assurance, offline production scheduling and balancing, and inventory management.
  • Training and experience in using Forklift and electric overhead crane.
  • Experience in offline production scheduling and balancing, inventory management processes, and management system processes.          
  • Advanced understanding of safe forklift operation, safe electric overhead crane operation for material handling, warehouse trans-loading process. 
  • General understanding of rail loading process and truck loading process.
  • General to advanced understanding of inventory management process and offline process scheduling and balancing.
  • Average understanding of management systems process and tools. 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing or walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push, and pull objects.
  • Ability to frequently lift objects up to 15 lbs. and dunnage up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently mount and dismount forklifts and cranes.
