You Have:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 years of industrial or manufacturing experience using hand tools.
  • Experience operating an overhead crane and forklift.
  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Ability to interpret instructions to use adjustable controls in regulating the continuous process using measuring instruments and gauges.
  • The ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift including days, nights, and two weekends a month.
  • Basic math skills, advanced problem-solving, ability to multi-task, analytical skills.


Your Purpose:

Must complete complex tasks, which are somewhat repetitive in nature, and require extreme care in selecting computer settings from menu-driven system and setting control panel devices to operate stacker and banding machines. Operate connecting conveyor systems in a sequential and coordinated fashion so as not to damage the product and maintain maximum material flow.


Your Work:

  • Unload trucks and stock supplies and/or consumables.
  • Operate/stock temperature and sampling device used to take temperatures, oxygen readings and steel samples.
  • May also take care of slag pots/pits as needed (i.e clean out pits with shovels, water, et).
  • Assist in maintaining refractory (patching or gunning).
  • Maintain runner/tap hole.
  • Build and add electrodes.
  • Record data in production systems.
  • Assist in changing rolls on the straightener.
  • Count and report the number of bars that enter and leave the cooling bed.
  • Operate band saw to line up and cut bars to specifications.
  • Inspect bar quality for surface defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Operate conveyor from the pulpit to move finished product from conveyors to automatic strapper.
  • Operate cold saw/shear from the pulpit to line up and cut the finished product to specifications.
  • Use the computer to print tags with product information and manually place tags on bars.
