You Have: 

  • Successful completion of entrance exam.
  • Mobile equipment or heavy equipment operation experience is preferred but not necessary. 
  • Flexibility to work a 12 hr rotating schedule with days, nights, and two weekends a month. 4/3 Dupont schedule.
  • Willingness to learn and self motivated.

 

Your Purpose:

You will be responsible for moving the finished product from the rolling mill to the staging area for outbound shipments with the use of mobile or material handling equipment. You will also assist in a variety of functions related to the Logistics Department including inventory and quality checks.

 

Your Work:

  1. Perform a variety of tasks, which are routine in nature, and require exercising care in the operation of mobile equipment, handling materials safely, and loading appropriate products in designated areas.
  2. Complete Gerdau safety training, forklift certification training and electric overhead crane training.
  3. Transfer stacked and bundled materials from end of rolling mill finishing operations to stock area:
    1. Store materials according to the product, grade, size, and heat number.
    2. Rotate warehouse stock materials to make room for new product
    3. Communicate material locations for inventory accuracy.
  4. Operate material handling equipment to lift, move, and position products.
  5. Observe items for conformity regarding product size, type, and length. Looks for quality issues that can be detected with the visible eye and reports issue to the Quality department.
  6. Assist in physical inventory counts and daily inventory spot checks.
  7. Ensure daily preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.
  8. Assist in the training of coworkers as needed.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing or walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push, and pull objects.
  • Ability to frequently lift objects up to 15 lbs. and dunnage up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently mount and dismount forklifts and cranes.
  • Have or will have passed an “applicable fit for duty” exam.
