Senior Project Engineer (Automation) will provide technical coordination and support for implementing and sustaining Controls, Automation, Instrumentation and Electrical efforts to improve safety, production, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs by:

 

  1. Elaborating the investment plan for the future CAPEX Projects;
  2. Managing open projects on budget, execution, schedule and performance KPIs;
  3. Supporting Software and Hardware engineering projects;
  4. Planning and executing equipment’s installations during the project’s life;
  5. Coordinating in plant construction CAPEX activities as required for installation and commissioning’s of new plant equipment or modification to existing ones;
  6. Implementing improved engineering designs and procedures through collaboration with engineering team, operations, maintenance, and suppliers. 
  7. Creating standards and procedures for new and ongoing projects;
  8. Participating on the development of the Annual Action Plans.
  9. Providing guidance to operations and maintenance personnel regarding electrical, automation and instrumentation initiatives and projects;
  10. Improving the current automation system performing PLC’s programming, HMI’s improvements and hardware architecture modifications;
  11. Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting operational data;
  12. Assisting in specific troubleshooting.

 

Senior Project Engineer (Automation) is a technical resource with activities that require engineering and/or maintenance-based experience in automation, mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment, preferably those used in steel manufacturing processes and facilities. This position will manage special projects and engineering activities to improve equipment’s performance, reduce plant costs, and improve reliability. 

               

Qualifications for this position include a four-year college degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or Automation Engineering, combined with a minimum of five years of applicable experience in Rolling Mill controls and operations. The candidate must have experience in implementation of Industry 4.0 initiatives, Level 1 systems (Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, WinCC and TIA Portal software’s) and Level 2 integrations. The candidate must demonstrate board knowledge of asset reliability technology and systems, with a working knowledge of heavy manufacturing. The incumbent should also possess a solid knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering concepts and techniques.  The successful applicant must solve complex problems, demonstrate project management skills, have a strong motivation to lead, and have a proven track record of delivering results.  

 

The Senior Project Engineer (Automation) will report directly to the Plant Engineering Manager. In a more detailed topics, the incumbent will be responsible for elaboation of technical studies, RFQ documents, definition of projects' scope, budget estimation and follow up with clients and suppliers, automation and electrical FATs, local area improvements, software and hardware upgrades/interfaces with operations and maintenance to define new projects and work in existing ones.  By the nature of this position, the incumbent should be able to travel internationally.  The incumbent will also be occasionally requested to support the productive areas in specific corrective and troubleshooting’s activities, as oriented by his direct report. It is expected that the Senior Project Engineer (Automation) participate of the annual outage planning and execution processes to conciliate interfaces between Capital projects and maintenance activities, ensuring an organized and assertive outage. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate with associates at all levels within the organization.
