Melt Shop Production Shift Supervisor

About the Role
The Melt Shop Production Shift Supervisor provides frontline leadership and guidance to create a safe, productive, and high-performing work environment within the Melt Shop. This position is responsible for driving results in safety, environmental compliance, quality, productivity, cost performance, and employee development through the continuous application of Gerdau Business System (GBS) principles.
Reporting directly to the Melt Shop Superintendent, this role serves as a key operational leader focused on standardizing processes, improving performance, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and promote a strong safety-first culture while ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Drive operational excellence in safety, production, quality, cost, and people management.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, products, equipment performance, and production efficiency.
- Ensure standard work practices and process standardization are consistently followed across the department.
- Conduct audits, needs assessments, and coaching activities to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead and support training efforts, including ITS programs and employee development activities.
- Champion 5S and workplace organization initiatives to improve efficiency and safety.
- Develop and implement cost-control, environmental, preventive maintenance, and safety improvement programs.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and leadership teams to achieve departmental and plant objectives.
- Mentor and develop employees while promoting a culture of engagement, accountability, and performance.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Material Science, or a related technical field preferred.
- 4-6 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with exposure to process standardization, quality systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Equivalent manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Previous Melt Shop experience is required.
- Strong understanding of steel manufacturing processes, equipment, and heavy industrial operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and driving operational improvements.
- Ability to train, coach, and develop employees at all levels.
- Strong communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of preventive maintenance, quality systems, safety programs, and continuous improvement principles.
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, GBS, 5S, or similar operational excellence methodologies is highly preferred.
