Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Oversees the operation of the metal shredding mill from the pulpit.
  • Uses manual controls/knobs to tend to the conveyor system that controls the shredding of scrap.
  • Visually monitors amount of material processing through the shredder mill.
  • Monitors computer screens to check motor temperatures, bearing temperatures, and water-flow.
  • Operates cutting torch.
  • Takes material weight readings and records data.
  • Visually monitors television screens, which depict everything taking place around the shredder.
  • Communicates and directs coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals.
  • Immediately notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Assist with maintenance/clean-up as needed.

 

 

The Individual

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, walk up inclines, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and pull hoses/ropes.
  • Lift objects of various dimensions and weights.
  • Ability to operate hand controls with both hands.
  • Ability to operate foot pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
  • Ability to operate vibration tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters and at heights.
  • Ability to tolerate all environmental weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels.
  • Ability to tolerate a swing shift work schedule.
  • Successfully complete Pulmonary Function Testing and ability to utilize a respirator.

 

 

Requirements/Skills:

 

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • People leadership skills and ability to follow direction and lead by example.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to perform well in a “TEAM” environment.
  • Self-motivator.
