Job Summary:

Use shop standards together with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and computer and precision measuring instruments. Training generally applicable to experience as machine tool operator and trades helper. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Ability to understand the basics in reading blueprints and manuals to obtain roll specifications.
2. Support the inspection of assembled rolls/guides for conformance to specifications and make adjustments as needed.
3. Rebuild old guides and rolls, first removing slag with scrapers, pry bars, cutting torches, or hammers.
4. Assist to disassemble previously installed mill stands and install and align new rolls. 
5. Set and adjust bolts to position rolls on mill stands using wrenches and bars.
6. Assemble and grease mill stands using hand and pneumatic tools and operate the offline setup verification system.
7. Perform equipment changes related to building of the mill stands, which may include rolls, chocks, lubrication systems, water sprays, and guides.
8. Assist in the removal of cobbles from mill stands.
9. Assist in maintaining consumable inventory levels and replenish as needed.  
10. Assist and support mill changeovers and cobble removal.
11. Perform routine equipment care and proper cleaning on chocks, guides, rest bars, etc.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Perform routine equipment care, record and inspection on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.
2. Operate overhead cranes to transfer product or materials.
3. Follow all PPE requirements and safety rules and guidelines for all tasks being performed.
4. Maintain communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals.
5. Demonstrate ability and willingness to work as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision. 
6. Maintain work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition
7. Assist maintenance personnel as needed.
8. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic computer skills.
• General math skills, advanced problem solving, ability to multi-task, and analytical skills.
• Ability to use charts, schedules, and touchscreens when applicable.
• Interpretation in the use of adjustable controls in regulating the continuous process through interpretation of measuring instruments and gauges.

6 months to 2 years of experience in the Roll Shop is preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing or walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.
• Ability to reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet.
• Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
• Ability to work in extreme ambient temperatures up to 160°F.
• Ability to work in cramped quarters and at heights.
• Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights and weekends.
• Ability to tolerate working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels.
