Job Summary:

 

Read and understand schematics that can be converted by engineering into standard format, modify existing prints and schematics as required to reflect changes, repair components when feasible, analyze and evaluate circuit boards for repair, train other support personnel, and service plant equipment and machines, microprocessor-based controls, instrumentation solid state controls, in addition to normal electrical duties. This position reports to the Plant Manager, Production Control Supervisor.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Responsible for PM’s and repairs of all plant equipment.
  2. Plan, layout, and perform installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair of all plan equipment following the approved maintenance and installation standards.
  3. Work with other maintenance technicians when completing all phases of installation, PM, and/or repairs, specifically plumbing of air, hydraulic, oil, water, and gas lines.
  4. Ability to use multi-meter to check live circuit.
  5. Make all necessary weldments and perform minor masonry work.
  6. Use measuring devices (precision equal to machinist) such as micrometers, gauges, calipers, and other measuring devices necessary to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  7. Repair and maintain electric motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical and mechanical control systems, and power transmission systems.
  8. Ability to safely rig machine parts for removal from equipment.
  9. Participate in training of other maintenance employees.
  10. Legibly and accurately complete all paperwork.
  11. Fabricate and install new electrical controls and panels on obsolete equipment.
  12. Maintain and repair all PLC in plant.
  13. Maintain and repair all AC and DC drives in plant.
  14. Maintain and repair all overhead cranes and hoist in plant.
  15. Troubleshoot and repair testing equipment in QC lab.
  16. Operate in all production, inventory, and maintenance control and data systems.
  17. Participate in the Gerdau Business System (GBS) process.

 

 

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  1. Operate mobile equipment to lift and transport materials, including loaders, cranes, man-lifts, brick-lift, and forklifts.
  2. Ensure daily preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.
  3. Follow all PPE requirements and safety rules and guidelines for all tasks being performed.
  4. Maintain communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals.
  5. Demonstrate ability and willingness to work as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision. 
  6. Maintains work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
  7. Exhibit engagement in GBS tools and methodology.
  8. Have basic computer skills.
  9. Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Verifiable maintenance technical training.
  • Understanding of shop mathematics with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience working in an industrial environment in a position containing a routine maintenance component.
  • 5-7 years of heavy industrial maintenance experience.
  • Mastery knowledge of the following maintenance disciplines: AC/DC motors, gearbox mechanics, lubrication principles, welding, cutting torch, NFPA 70E, common maintenance hand tools.                                                                                      
  • Advanced knowledge of pump, gearbox, hydraulic system, pneumatic system, stick and tig welding and rigging principles (heavy load calculations). 
  • Thorough understanding of lubricants (gearbox, couplings, bearings).
  • Applicable level 1 PDM training in the following: laser alignment, vibration, IR, MCE, lubrication, and ultrasound.(Optional)

 

AAS in industrial maintenance and maintenance reliability certifications are preferred.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.
  • Ability to reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
  • Ability to work in extreme ambient temperatures up to 160°F.
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters and at heights.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule including days, nights and weekends.
  • Ability to tolerate working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels.
