Job Summary:
Plan, layout, set up, and perform or direct repairs to a wide variety of worn or damaged machined, fabricated, cast, forged, or welded metal parts, in order to salvage or maintain plan structures, machines, equipment specified by sketches, diagrams, sample parts, or work pieces. Also may develop or build pieces and attachments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Position, fit, and weld components to assemble structural forms, machinery frames, plant equipment, attachments or accessories, and building parts, according to blueprints or knowledge of structural and metal characteristics.
- Select equipment or material, and plan the layout, assembly, and welding or bolting of it.
- Clamp, bolt, or track weld parts to secure them in position for fabricating and welding.
- Repair plant equipment by dismantling, straightening, and/or reshaping parts, and then reassembling them.
- Disconnect and reconnect any electrical hydraulic, pneumatic, and water lines leading to equipment to be repaired.
- Lay out, position, align, and fit components together; set-up equipment and weld, braze, or silver solder as required.
- Chip or grind out holes, bubbles, or cracks in work pieces.
- Develop and fabricate additions or attachments to equipment, jigs, fixtures, worktables, and equipment reinforcements.
- Perform work using MIG, TIG, and plasma arc, and use various specialty cutting and welding equipment.
- Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and materials usage.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Operate mobile equipment to lift and transport materials, including loaders, cranes, man-lifts, brick-lift, and forklifts.
- Ensure daily preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.
- Follow all PPE requirements as well as safety rules and guidelines for all tasks being performed.
- Assist in training of coworkers as needed.
- Maintain communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals.
- Demonstrate ability and willingness to work as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision.
- Maintain work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
- Exhibit engagement in GBS tools and methodology.
- Utilize basic computer skills; specifically, SAP experience preferred.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Understanding of shop mathematics with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and precision measuring instruments.
- Intermediate knowledge of fabrication maintenance parts and equipment in an industrial setting.
AAS in industrial maintenance and maintenance reliability certifications are preferred.
3-5 years’ experience working in an industrial environment in a position containing a routine maintenance component is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.
- Ability to reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet.
- Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
- Ability to work in extreme ambient temperatures up to 160°F.
- Ability to work in cramped quarters and at heights.
- Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights and weekends.
- Ability to tolerate working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels.
