Candidate has specialized training and expertise in the field of advanced hydraulics/pneumatics.  Work involves precision maintenance and advanced troubleshooting, repair and installation of complex mechanical assemblies.  Must have the technical knowledge to provide solutions that simplify and/or improve the reliability and efficiency of equipment within the department.   


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Uses specialized knowledge and training in hydraulics/pneumatics to troubleshoot, repair, install, assemble, or disassemble complex mechanical assemblies or precision equipment at an expert level. 
  • Will be the subject matter expert for the department or location in the field of hydraulics/pneumatics or gearboxes/drivetrains. 
  • Works with local leadership, maintenance teams and suppliers to recommend and implement solutions that produce cost-savings, efficiency improvements or simplifications to equipment or processes. 
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to plan, perform and lead pneumatic or hydraulic projects.
  • Coordinates the activities of other employees or contractors on assigned projects.
  • Interprets schematics/blueprints at an advanced level.
  • Research, specify, and help source equipment and parts. 



Additional Responsibilities:


  • Must have a solid understanding and the ability to exercise appropriate judgement when troubleshooting motor controls, PLC and electrical components. 
  • Assist Planners with scheduling and prioritizing maintenance activities.
  • Assists in training of coworkers as needed.
  • Follows all PPE requirements and safety rules/guidelines for all tasks being performed.
  • All other duties as assigned.




  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Industrial Maintenance is preferred.
  • 10 years of heavy industrial mechanical maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Must pass the Gerdau Mechanical Maintenance test.
  • Experience working in an industrial environment in a position containing a routine maintenance component.
  • Advanced knowledge of the following maintenance disciplines: AC/DC motors, gear box mechanics, pumps, hydraulic or pneumatic systems, lubrication principles, welding, cutting torch, NFPA 70E, and common maintenance hand tools.
  • Thorough understanding of lubricants (gear box, couplings, bearings).
  • Verifiable maintenance technical training:
    • Possess advanced certifications in hydraulics or pneumatics
    • Level 1 (PdM) predictive maintenance certification in vibration and/or laser alignment is preferred


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.
  • Reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
  • Ability to work in extreme ambient temperatures up to 160°F.
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters and at heights.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule including days, nights and weekends.
  • Ability to tolerate working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels.
