BASIC FUNCTION:

 

This position is responsible for energy projects and related supply contracts to support Gerdau North American facilities.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

 

The Energy Consultant leads energy projects and supports the energy team to supply electricity, natural gas, industrial gases, and similar supply and services necessary to meet the requirements of the Company.

 

Qualifications for the position include experience in any of the following: energy purchasing, utility regulation, manufacturing energy uses, environmental regulation or electricity generation.  The candidate should be able to communicate, negotiate, and advocate effectively. The candidate should have a minimum of three to five years of relevant experience and a four-year degree or equivalent additional work experience. Strong analytical, modeling and computer skills required (MS Office Suite, SAP, PowerBI). Candidate will be responsible for projects across multiple mills requiring effective remote work and travel as required.

 

The Energy Consultant is responsible for analyzing, developing, and implementing energy supply projects such as renewable energy power purchase agreements, on site generation opportunities, regulatory interventions or demand response programs; keeping abreast of conditions and forecasts in the energy markets; identifying and pursuing improvement opportunities; collaborating with plant management and personnel to assure effective implementation of supply arrangements; complying with established risk management, accounting and related policies and procedures; and ensuring the most efficient use of resources.  The candidate may represent the Company’s interests in local, state/provincial, and national regulatory and legislative arenas.

 

The candidate develops and maintains effective business and professional contacts to keep abreast of market conditions, opportunities, and trends.  The candidate will analyze opportunities, create models, develop talking points and other advocacy materials, prepare requests for proposals, contracts, studies of relevant issues, forecasts and maintain adequate files and records to compile periodic reports.

 

Candidate studies and analyzes business unit consumption and requirements for energy and related supplies and consults with plant management and users to adequately meet operational needs.  Obtains competitive bids as required and negotiates major supply arrangements under the general direction of the Director of Energy. 

 

The candidate will assist in representing the company in commercial, regulatory, and governmental activities necessary to protect and further the interests of Gerdau in areas related to energy.  The candidate will work with professionals, consulting resources and counsel where necessary to secure specialized assistance as required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  3. Monitor and maintain up-to-date market intelligence in relevant energy markets and identify opportunities.
  4. Cooperate with plant management to maintain effective communications regarding needs and assure efficiency and effectiveness of commercial arrangements.
  5. Responsible for recommending, initiating, and carrying out company policies and programs.
  6. Assist in representing the company in commercial, regulatory, and governmental activities necessary to protect and further the interests of Gerdau
  7. Comply with corporate risk management policies regarding energy matters.
