Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 -4 years of logistics experience in a logistics related field. Rail experience a plus.
  • Critical thinking, analytical skills and problem solving.
  • Ability to operate in a fast paced operations work environment.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to adapt to many varied situations, circumstances, and personalities at all levels within and outside the company.
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to communicate with leaders at all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities, manage projects, and effectively communicate results.

  • Significant experience with the use of freight systems/relational data bases (SAP, Intellitrans TMS, Power BI, etc.) and query/report development.

Your Purpose

As part of the North American logistics team, you will provide analysis, technical support, and carrier communications to maintain transportation structures, systems, and ongoing freight services for Gerdau Long Steel North America.  You will be assisting with the negotiation of proposals, establishing, and verifying shipping procedures, and analyzing shipping data to look for opportunities and identify market trends. You will also assist in the development of policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure high-quality, low-cost shipping opportunities.  This position will lead the management of railcar equipment throughout the network ensuring a proper flow and delivery of company material.  You may serve as a conduit to mill logistics managers, fulfillment, dispatch, and warehouse teams.   

 

Your Work

  • Adhere to all safety responsibilities and maintain a safety mindset.
  • Support all day-to-day activities associated with the management of Logistics programs and railcar equipment to ensure efficient and accurately administered programs in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policy, with a focus on continuous improvement. 
  • Monitor the flow of private and railroad cars throughout the network to ensure proper usage, maintenance and delivery of product while maintaining proper condition of private assets. Handle escalated issues with railroads or vendors.
  • Lead acquisition and/or leasing negotiations of rail equipment as necessary.
  • Create and maintains reports and dashboards in Power BI.
  • Participate and provide support during annual/regular processes in the logistics department.
  • Develop influential working relationship with mill logistics and key business partners by providing insight and advice that consistently improves thinking and decision-making processes and outcomes.
  • Assist with reconciliation, payment and monitoring of vendors. This may include accounts payable payments and analyzing performance standards for outside logistics vendors.
  • Participate in benchmarking activities that support the logistics area on a regular (i.e., annual) or ad-hoc basis. Use relevant benchmark data and provide suggestions for strategy planning.
  • Assist, respond to and support audit requests from external and internal parties.  Document internal processes, procedures, and administration as appropriate for audit requirements. Facilitate annual audit preparation and completion.
  • Develop and document internal processes and procedures to support consistency, process improvement and simplicity in the logistics area.
  • Proactively identifies logistics challenges and opportunities and recommends creative and practical solutions and strategies to resolve challenges and/or capitalize on opportunities.
  • Develop the training, communications, and educational programs and facilitates the delivery. 
  • Primary liaison with IT and Shared Services in the development, testing, implementation, and post-production review of all SAP changes and configuration requests related to Logistics.
  • Proactively look for digital and innovation solutions such as enhanced electronic data interchange (ED)I functionality, transportation management systems (TMS) enhancements, or other solutions.
