NATURE AND SCOPE:
Primary responsibilities include: General Quality testing, inspection and analysis as required by the product and at the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager.
This position reports to either the Routine Facilitator or Quality Assurance Manager, depending on the mill location. This position requires a minimum of two years of steel mill or related experience and a high school diploma. Training for the specific tasks will be provided by the site. An aptitude for working with computers and sensitive technical instruments will be a plus.
The incumbent must be able to work in a controlled laboratory environment, and must be able to work independently. Experiance with the use of SAP is preferred.
The Quality Technician is responsible for daily quality testing requirements, record keeping, reporting and equipment maintenance. The incumbent will be accountable for acquisition (where applicable) and preparation of test samples as well as performing the actual tests and reporting of quality results to the appropriate department. Additionally, the Quality Technician may also be responsible for product inspection.
The Quality Technician will be required to review quality data results and compare them to product requirements. The individual is accountable for notifying the routine facilitator or Quality Assurance manager if there are any problems with the data or inspection of the product.
This position may be required to perform additional duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.
The incumbent is required to perform all of the above responsibilities in accordance with all applicable laws and polices. The incumbent is required to perform these duties with the highest prudence and regard to safety of health, human life and the environment.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Report Offspec or product defects to the Quality Assurance Manager or Routine Facilitator
- Daily Production Duties:

- Maintain test equipment to ensure continual operation.

- Review test results to report on Certified Test Report.

- Prepare samples in ovens for testing and trials.
- Other accountabilities will be at the discretion of the Quality Assurance Manager
- Observe and follow all general and departmental safety rules and regulations.
- Follow Cardinal Safety Rules.
- Complete all required annual safety and environmental training.
- Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in clean up of spills.
- Know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
- Utilization of EMM and GBS concepts.
- Maintain equipment, housekeeping, and 5S in the area.
