BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Responsible for providing technical services and support to customers, sales & marketing, R&D teams and operations at Gerdau Special Steel. Represents the company in technical issue resolution in assigned territory and leads new product development projects.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position is responsible for providing technical support to customers, sales & marketing, R&D  teams and operations.This position reports directly to the Director of Product Development & Technical Services.

Qualifications for this position will include knowledge, abilities, and skills as may be demonstrated by a degree in metallurgy, materials science, chemical or other relevant engineering field, from an accredited college or university, preferably combined with a minimum of 5 years of direct operational experience in steel mill production, specifically SBQ. The position also requires a good knowledge of the making, shaping and treating of steel. Specific knowledge of forging technology and automotive experience is desirable. 

The Technical Services Engineer provides technical service support to customers, supports sales personnel with technical issues, interacts with mill personnel and Product and Process Engineers, in the understanding of customer specifications and expectations. The incumbent coordinates the resolution of customer complaints and ensures that corrective and preventive actions proposed are robust and meets customer expectations.

The Technical Services Engineer has the responsibility of identifying opportunities and leading projects for the development of new products and applications.

Due to frequent interaction with customers and other stakeholders, the position requires the ability to communicate effectively with different personalities in diverse situations. Incumbent must also possess good technical report writing and presentation skills. The incumbent will also be expected to provide technical and engineering expertise for special projects.

 

 

This position is responsible for metallurgical review for sales inquiries, plant loading, and routing steps to support pricing. The incumbent must have a thorough understanding of customer specifications and expectations. Additionally, the technical service engineer should explore & implement VAVE (value add – value engineering) initiatives to optimize costs.

The incumbent develops and maintains thorough customer profiles for the territory he or she is accountable for, including specifications, expectations, routing/economy, and technical resolution. The incumbent is required to sand shall be willing to travel in order to support customers and internal stakeholders as needed.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  1. Provide technical services to the customer, the sales team and other stakeholder groups.

 

  1. Maintain existing and develop new customer accounts.

 

  1. Develop and implement a defined visitation plan for assigned customer accounts.

 

  1. Issue timely and regular customer contact reports to the organization

 

  1. Identify new product development opportunities. Work collaboratively with the Product Line Manager in the coordination and implementation of product development projects

 

  1. Conduct follow-up visits to review quality, economy, and satisfaction of new products

 

  1. Responsible for review of customer specifications and expectations, establishing cost optimized routing, plant loading and technical resolution for customer issues in the assigned territory.

 

  1. Develop relationships with universities, technical and trade organizations and OEMs.

 

  1. Comply with company policy and procedures.
