BASIC FUNCTION:

This position is responsible for providing Controls and Electrical leadership guidance on establishing a productive, high performing, and safety conscious working environment.  This position is responsible for the training, guidance, and performance of the controls and electrical team members, as well as managing special projects and activities to improve equipment reliability, optimize maintenance costs, and reduce equipment downtime.  The position will participate in the development and execution of a controls and electrical roadmap for the facility.

 

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITES:

 

  1. Duties will include controlling the workflow within the area of responsibility, assist in minimizing downtime/breakdowns and maximizing productivity, monitor performance, managing routine processes, and training employees in routine management standards.
  2. Technical coordination and support for implementing and sustaining Controls and Automation efforts to improve safety, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs by:
    1. Software and hardware engineering support.
    2. PLC programming & hardware architecture.
    3. Basic electrical and electronic troubleshooting.
    4. Collect, analyze, and interpret operational data.   
    5. Implement improved engineering designs and procedures through collaboration with operations, maintenance, engineering, and suppliers. 
    6. Ensure the integrity of the Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and standard procedures.
    7. Participate in the development of the Annual Action Plans.
    8. Provide guidance to maintenance personnel regarding automation initiatives
  1. Oversee, contribute to, and support daily routine management activities in the day-by-day work. 
  2. Establish and negotiate department goals and manage Action Plans for area/cell of responsibility goal achievement.
  3. Effectively utilize controls and electrical personnel and develop subordinates to (a) assure a high level of quality and expertise and (b) assure the best use of individual and group capabilities
  4. Responds directly to operations request for services vital to maintaining operations.
  5. During scheduled non-production hours, directs controls technicians and electrician employees in preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and routine equipment repairs.
  6. Assesses priorities and effectively applies resources to enhance production capabilities.
  7. Effectively manages monthly and annual budgets and expenditures.
  8. Administers all T.P.M. activities and P.M. program as directed.

 

  1. Facilitate training sessions for electricians and controls technicians under a maintained training matrix on compliance standards, routine methodologies, failure analysis, tools, policies, practices, and processes.
  1. Coach and Develop performance expectations, audit performance, document findings, and establish corrective action plans.
  2. Collaborate with and encourage electricians and control technicians on audits, 5S initiatives, needs assessments, preventive maintenance and safety management processes and procedures, Kaizen Events, and other process routine management activities to identify opportunities for improvement and solve problems.
  3. Conduct trend analysis, compile, and analyze symptoms and failures.
  4. Administer all safety activities. Coordinates all emergency preparedness practices, policies, and procedures.
  5. Track performances on control items. Ensure compliance. Design and implement new as well as updating existing standards.
  6. Administers the Collective Bargaining Agreement to prevent labor problems, resolve conflict, and provide a positive labor climate.
  7. Responsible for carrying out company policy, programs, and procedures.

 

 

 

                           

Qualifications for this position include a four-year college degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Automation Engineering, or minimum of eight to ten years of applicable work experience in a manufacturing setting.  The candidate must have experience in implementation of Industry 4.0 initiatives, and in Level 1 and Level 2. The candidate must demonstrate board knowledge of asset reliability technology and systems. The incumbent should also possess a solid knowledge of engineering concepts and techniques.  The successful applicant must solve complex problems, demonstrate project management skills, have a strong motivation to lead, and have a proven track record of delivering results.  The Controls Engineer reports to the Finishing Operations Superintendent.

 

The incumbent must perform the above mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, State,  and Local environmental regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.  Employees must also report any situation that may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.
