Job Description

This position is responsible for coordinating and scheduling between Gerdau Trailers/Haulers and other 3rd party truck carriers to ensure the constant supply of raw material to the mill, shredder, as well as external shipments to vendors. Required to coordinate with the Gerdau commercial department to determine material demands and develop strategies to secure supply. Position involves a high level of organization, attention to detail and ability to problem solve in an ever-changing dynamic environment while providing excellent customer service.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

1. Responsible for booking and scheduling all internal and/or 3rd party trucks on a daily basis to meet the requirements of mill, shredder and external vendors.

2. Daily coordination with Gerdau scales, scrap yard, shredder & suppliers to determine available inventory with development of shipping routes and carrier allocations.

3. Strategic planning of raw material supply and logistics to streamline current processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency and functionality.

4. Manage the relationship between Gerdau and our logistics carriers to resolve disputes, motivate and persuade positive changes, and ensure a beneficial working relationship between all parties.

5. Monitor all Gerdau SAP vendor contracts to ensure fulfilment in accordance with contract terms and delivery timeline commitments.

6.Source new carriers, negotiate rates, and present proposals outlining benefits and opportunities to logistics management.

7. Communicating logistics and operational changes on behalf of Gerdau to all relevant parties. (Mill, Yard, Shredder, External suppliers) Participate in carrier meetings to discuss bid proposals and negotiate service terms and freight rates.

8. Performs regular audits on carrier billing as well as internal system freight rate tables to ensure correct freight charges and applicable surcharges.

9. Administers corporate policies and safety requirements for all 3rd party carriers as well as annual training programs and new carrier setups.

10. Develop and maintain logistics KPI data and department reports as required.

11.Conduct and participate in operational meetings with Gerdau carriers and staff to review and resolve logistics related issues and implement opportunities for improvement.  

 

The Individual

 

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Knowledge and use of procedures related to scrap receiving, freight, storage, and transfer.
  • High level of computer proficiency, software & computer applications absolutely essential for this position including Excel applications and preferably SAP.
  • Able to perform and prioritize a variety of analytical tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail especially as it relates to spreadsheets, data-entry, data analysis, numbers, inventory management, etc.
  • Requires strong analytical & troubleshooting skills as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.  
  • Previous experience performing data-entry, data analysis, inventory control, freight management, report preparation and accounting/bookkeeping related activities preferred.
