BASIC FUNCTION:
To be a business partner through providing financial and business leadership to Downstream Operations (Huntington, IN & Jackson, MI Location) management team to assist in achieving the goals and objectives by analyzing the financial results and making recommendations of actions to maximize return on capital employed.
Overall responsibility for the reporting of all financial information of the operation including:
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position’s responsibilities pertain primarily to the accuracy of the division’s financial records and analysis to support reduction of operational costs. This includes ensuring the accuracy of production and ending inventories; determine validity of usage of materials and other costs in the preparation of the division cost statement; review all statements with division management explaining variances and making sure managers have an understanding of their results. The controller will be responsible for providing detailed monthly analysis of results against historical, forecast or benchmark data to identify opportunities for improvement and to assist with the operation meeting its goals and objectives. In addition, the position will have responsibility for compiling and coordinating all data for inclusion in business plans and quarterly forecasts; review projects (including capital) and assisting with the calculation of expected project benefits; ensuring that the internal control environment is strong and that the Company’s policies and procedures are followed including, those related to the monthly financial close process, inventory observations, purchase approval limits etc.
Major challenges for the position are: 1) To stay abreast of activities at the operation to ensure that their associated accounting implications are recorded, 2) Operate in an efficient manner to meet information requirements for many stakeholders, and 3) Assist divisional management in measuring economic performance and recommend changes to improve profitability and cost savings using tools included in the Gerdau Business System such as the balanced score card, GAP trending data amongst others. This position reports directly to the Director of Downstream Operations at GSN and is a key member of the management team.
This position manages a team that is responsible for assisting in the accounting functions to include payables, inventories and other financial records as may be assigned. This position is also responsible for developing their team, providing performance reviews and continous performance feedback
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. 1. Responsible for the accuracy, timeliness and completeness of all financial information including but not limited to payroll, inventories, production, shipping, and purchasing and payables.
2. Responsible for the development, analysis and interpretation of financial and operating information to assist the management team achieve its goals and objectives.
3. Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating the assigned staff, recommending and administering discipline.
4. Responsible for promoting and fostering a strong internal control environment at the operation ensuring that all corporate policies and procedures are followed and that control self assessments for the facility are completed as required.
5. Maintain effective liaison with the division personnel, corporate general accounting, and tax departments, auditors, vendors, and executive corporate management.
6. Carry out and administer corporate programs and policies relative to areas of responsibility.
7. Account for the fixed assets with the assistance of the Corporate Controller’s department.
8. Carry out or participate in assigned projects such as capital expenditures on new facilities, product lines, or when in need to assist Corporate Accounting personnel in various projects.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
This position requires a broad background and extensive knowledge including an accounting, finance and/or related degree from an accredited university. Position requires a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in cost and general accounting, budgeting and forecasting, supervisory experience and knowledge of computer financial systems.
Preference may be given to candidates with accounting certifications such as CPA, CMA, CA, etc.
Preference may be given to candidates familiar with Workday Adaptive Insights & PLEX ERP
