SCOPE:

 

This is an exciting time to build a career in steel. We are looking for individuals who are protagonists and the main responsability of this position is to support our strategy for building the Gerdau of the future.

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

You will be our subject matter expert on our main end-markets and will focus on gathering the intelligence we need to succeed in them for another 122 years. The Sr. Market Strategy Analyst will play a key role in the Marketing and Sales team by performing market research, leading our market forecasting process and being the organizational reference in competitive analysis. This role will require strong analytical skills, advanced experience using Microsoft Excel and Power Point, and ability to lead internal projects. You will be exposed to our high leadership, have relationships with teams from other countries, and work with exciting emerging trends that are driving the future of many industries - as electrification, urban mobility and digitalization. The Sr Market Strategy Analyst will report to the Business Development Manager, and they will also work together on initiatives looking for new revenue streams to our organization.

Supervisory:     Reports to the Business Development Manager under Marketing.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

 

The Sr Market Strategy Analyst position increases in scope beyond Marketing Analyst II to include special, non-standard analysis and leadership of different initiatives, such as:

  • Developing a method to research and obtain appropriate market data upon which conclusions can be made and action plans developed;
  • Leading analysis of statistics (shipments, market share, by country, region, imports, exports) for Gerdau’s product group(s), and where applicable for downstream products;
  • Leading analysis of steel consuming market activities in order to gage changes in demand by segment.
  • Developing executive presentations and eventually presenting to division committee;
  • Being a key player in the Strategic roadmap and PEX processes;
  • Leading Gerdau in external activities, such as projects and roundtables with Worldsteel, Center for Automotive Research and other think tanks.
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

     

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, marketing or a related area.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in market research, marketing strategy, or related analytical roles either working in a similar function in another company or for a market research firm.
  • Innovative thinking, be open and proactive, showing ability to present new ideas and articulate on its potential.
  • Show ability to learn, unlearn and relearn.
  • Ability to multitask, working on strategic initiatives and relevant routines at the same time.
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, and be comfortable presenting to large groups, translating complex topics into accessible language.
  • Ability to drive strategic initiatives without regular follow-ups.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

     

  • Experience with Power BI.
  • MBA preferred but not required.
  • The Sr Market Strategy Analyst won’t be required to have prior experience in the steel or the Automotive industry, but these will be differentiators.

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

     

    The 4 main pillars for the Sr Market Strategy Analyst will be:

     

  • Market Intelligence and Market Research:
    1. Monitoring and communicating performance and latest news for main end-markets (automotive, heavy trucks, oil & gas, agricultural and construction equipment, defense and other industrial markets), being the reference of the subject for the organization.
    2. Execution of established statistical models for market segment forecasting and seek ways to improve and generate new ones.
    3. Regular analysis of statistics (shipments, market share, by country, region, imports, exports) for Gerdau’s product group(s).
    4. Lead and support medium (1-3 year) and long term (3-10 year) market studies.
  • Emerging Trends and Product Intelligence:
    1. Monitor evolution of main emerging trends that are impacting our industry, including (but not limited to) electrification, urban mobility and digitalization.
    2. Translate how these trends will impact our business through concise and intelligent studies and presentations.
    3. Develop relationships with key stakeholders that are looking at these emerging trends, including Gerdau divisions from other countries, customers, universities and think tanks.
    4. Support to initiatives that look at new revenue streams for Gerdau through GNext or Gerdau Special Steel North America.
  • Competitive Intelligence:
    1. Monitor competitors, understanding their value offering and informing the organization through concise analysis.
    2. Monitor competitive positioning of Gerdau products and propose ways to improve our offering.
  • Executive Presentations and Reporting:
    1. Be a key player in our annual planning process creating analysis of our main end-markets and how they will impact our business in the short and long-term.
    2. Regularly produce routine reports that are essential to our business, and create other ones on the spot when needed.
    3. Support to the Sales and Marketing teams for customer visits and special events.

    The Sr Market Strategy Analyst will be required to travel approximately four times per year to visit customers, mills, and/or attend trade shows and trade association meetings.

The company is headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil and has two business divisions in North America.

     

    This position is at Gerdau’s special steel division (headquarteted in Jackson, MI), which produces high quality engineered carbon and alloy special bar quality (SBQ) steel bars for safety critical applications used by the automotive, commercial vehicle, construction, agricultural, distribution and energy markets.
