Job Description:

The Logistics Manager reports directly to the Regional Product Line Manager and is responsible for the storage and shipment of a wide variety of products, including a wide variety of shapes and lengths. Responsible for the supervision, training, and safety of the division warehousing, shipping, and customer order scheduling operations of a wide range of merchant products. The Logistics Manager must be familiar with the different state and federal regulations that afect shipments. The incumbents goal is to ensure the timely delivery of the customer's order while developing good relationships with the area rail representatives and a wide variety of mlocal, regional, and national carriers.

 

One of the main priorities for this position will be providing and maintaining a safe work environment for employees.  The Logistics Manager must oversee and ensure that all employees, drivers, and vendors adhere to safety policies at all times. 

 

The Logistics Manager will be play instrumental part of the local annual action plan creation and must manage this action plan to completion each year.  The annual action plan will encompass improvement items, budgets, CAP-EX spending, employee training, employee opinion survey, and other annual projects that may come up at any given time.

 

This position requires leadership skills, knowledge of the transportation industry, a broad background in warehousing, customer service, and shipping functions including the supervision or management of personnel.  Requires strong attention to detail in managing inventories, schedules, and costs.  The Logistics Manager will be designated to handle customer complaints related to the quantity, condition or timliness of shipments. In handling customer complaints, the incumbent must use tact and experience in dealing with the carriers and customers.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a safe work environment
  • Receiving and warehousing of finished products
  • Ensuring freight market intelligence is continuously gathered and known at the local level to ensure competitive freight costs
  • Shipping based on order releases
  • Handling of customer complaints or non-conformance reports
  • Negotiations with selected motor carriers for the best cost and service available for delivery
  • Training and succession planning for self and all direct report employees
  • Annual action plan creation and completion
  • Annual PPA creation, review, and approval for self and all direct report employees
  • Supervise and coordinate the accurate and timely storage and shipment of merchant products and billets
  • Maintain accurate records as related to shipping documents and inventory levels
  • Develop an effective liaison between sales, traffic, and mill warehouse operations elsewhere in the corporation
  • Responsible for administering corporate, plant, and departmental personnel policies and programs

 

 

The Individual:

  • Bacherlor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Adminstration, or Material Science. 
  • Minimum 6-8 years of logistics supervisory and/or managerial experience is requrired
  • Minimum 6-8 years of shipping, delivery, and inventory experience with considerable accuracy demonstrated in the preparation of records, reports, and shipments
  • High level of computer proficiency, software & computer applications absolutely essential for this position including Excel applications and preferably SAP
  • Able to perform and prioritize a variety of analytical tasks with minimum supervision
  • Strong attention to detail especially as it relates to spreadsheets, data-entry, data analysis, numbers, inventory management, etc.
  • Requires strong analytical & troubleshooting skills as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous experience performing data-entry, data analysis, inventory control, report preparation and accounting/bookkeeping related activities preferred
