Gerdau is a major steel manufacturing company, operating in 10 countries, and employing over 30,000 individuals. The North American business divisions (Gerdau Long Steel North America and Gerdau Specialty Steel North America) produce long and special steel products for the agriculture, energy, industrial, automotive, and manufacturing markets. We stimulate the economy through our network of recycling operations and mills, operating ten mills in the U.S. and three in Canada. This internship offers practical work experience for an introduction to Information Technology, as well as the opportunity to gain experience within the technical operations of a manufacturing environment. It will involve challenging opportunities, real technical projects and day to day interaction with IT users, ensuring a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience within all aspects of the IT.
People with strong interpersonal skills, highly dependability, a love of learning and who enjoy helping people and solving problems will be ideally suited for this position.
Your activities:
The IT Support Intern will provide technical assistance and support to Gerdau users for hardware, software and application. Activities include installing and maintaining computer systems, including software & hardware on desktops and laptops, resolving internet and network access issues (both wired and wireless), providing network printer support, and meeting with users to provide one-on-one technical assistance.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Help users with requests, troubleshoot problems and help develop solutions.
- Support PC hardware components, desktop operating system, and applications.
- Perform minor repairs to equipment and arrange for other servicing needs.
- Report issues to vendors as needed and monitor and test resolution of those issues.
- Monitor antivirus updates and repair infected computers.
- Record activities, solutions and other responses to request for service in ServiceNow.
- Assist in maintaining equipment inventory.
- Develop and provide user training for basic hardware and software use.
- Ensure customer issues/tickets are resolved in a timely manner.
- Assist users with packaged software and with Gerdau applications.
- Software installations and license tracking and support.
- Contribute to projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Awareness of the PC hardware, desktop operating system software & applications.
- Awareness of the PC industry’s current and emerging technology trends.
- Analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot.
- Ability to research and understand technical documentation.
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Experience with Windows operating systems.
Requirements
- Have completed two years of a university degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience or other related disciplines
- Be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment
