Seeking experienced Engineer III or IV, with extensive hands-on skills in implementing mechanical, electrical or automation projects. Candidate will report to the Engineering Manager and will work closely with operational units in a steel mill environment.  Position will include developing and managing capital expense projects (CAPEX) from inception to completion. The candidate will support process optimization efforts throughout the facility.  Ideal candidate should have hands-on experience troubleshooting technical issues related to industrial and manufacturing equipment.  This position requires a strong understanding of safety policies and standards that are applicable for industrial operations. The Engineer will be leading and participating in many team orientated work groups. The candidate is to be process-oriented and can adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment. Strong leadership, communications, data collection and presentation skills are required.

 

GENERAL JOB FUNCTION

  1. Provide Technical Support for Operations
    1. Work closely with leaders on Operational Improvements
    2. Trouble Shooting of Existing Equipment and Processes
    3. Assist and Participate in Improvement Activities 
    4. Coordination of Schedules During Outage Periods
    5. Actively involved in Safety Teams and Improvements
    6. Implement Best Practices
    7. Assist with the Annual Action Planning
  2. Project Planning
    1. Utilize Project Teams to Define the Information for Projects
    2. Prepare Technical Studies for CAPEX Project Plans
      1. Scope of Work Definition and Implementation Planning
      2. Schedule for Project
      3. Project Cost and Benefit Analysis
    3. Preliminary Studies for Project Planning (PS)
    4. Submit Selected Project Plans for Approval of Investment (PAI)
    5. Drawing and Document Management for Projects
    6. Project Closure (AVI)
  3. Project Implementation
    1. Completely Responsible of Project Scope, Schedule and Budget
    2. Utilize Project Team’s Skills for a Successful Project
    3. Design of Equipment, Facilities and Processes
    4. Develop Technical Bid Packages for Equipment Fabrication
    5. Develop Technical Bid Packages for Facility and Utilities
    6. Selection of Equipment and Construction Companies to perform work
    7. Coordinate with Procurement to issue Purchase Orders and Contracts
    8. Work with Operations to Modify Processes Impacted by Project
    9. Installation of Equipment, Facilities and Utilities
    10. Commissioning of Equipment, Facilities and Utilities
    11. Verify and Report Project Function, Quality and Benefits
    12. Finalization of Project Documentation and Drawings
  4. Capex Portfolio Planning
    1. Coordinate with Operations on Short and Long Term Project Needs
    2. Organize Project Priorities by Criticality and Benefit Calculations
    3. Investigate New Technologies and Best Practices and Incorporate into Project Plans
    4. Align Capex Projects with Yearly PEX Plans
    5. Determine Portfolio Implementation Schedule
    6. Prepare 3 – 5 year Capex Plan for Departments
    7. Present Portfolio Plan to Management for Approval and Planning 

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in: Mechanical Engineering 
  2. 5 -8 Years of Industrial, Hands-On Experience
  3. Bachelor of Science Degree (Preferred)
  4. Project Management Skills in Completing Complex Projects
  5. PMP Certification (optional)
  6. Specialist in at least (1) Engineering Field
  7. Basic Auto-Cad and Layout Skills
  8. Knowledgeable in Industrial Safety and Construction Methods
  9. Microsoft Project Schedule
  10. Efficient in all Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc… 

 

GENERAL

Domestic and Overseas Travel may be required.  Frequency and duration of travel is dependent on the project requirements. Extended working hours required during travel and critical project phases.
