CORE FUNCTION:

 

Responsible for the cost effective management, training, and safety of the downstream process for Huntington, IN Finishing Operations .  Directly manage SBQ finishing operations at the Huntington, IN facility.

 

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

 

The Finishing Superintendent is responsible for:

  1. Ensuring a safe work environment;
  2. Key Performance Indicator (KPI) score improvements year over year;
  3. Training and succession planning for self and all direct report employees;
  4. Annual action plan creation and completion;
  5. Annual My Goals creation, review, and approval for self and all direct report employees;

 

The Finishing Superintendent reports directly to the Director of Downstream Operations.

 

This position requires leadership skills, a broad background in manufacturing, as well as working knowledge of  value-added processing, with 8 to 10 years of related experience including 4 years of supervision of personnel with a Bachelors Degree in a technical or business related major or equivalent experience. Requires strong attention to detail in managing costs and compliance to policies. 

 

One of the main challenges for the incumbent will be providing and maintaining a safe work environment for employees.  The incumbent must oversee and ensure that all employees adhere to safety policies at all times.  This includes but is not limited to Mobile Equipment safety, Fall Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, and Safety Behaviors.

 

The Finishing Superintendent will play an instrumental part of the local annual action plan creation and must manage this action plan to completion each year.  The annual action plan will encompass improvement items, budgets, CAP-EX spending, employee training, employee opinion survey, and other annual projects that may come up at any given time.

 

The incumbent is responsible for selection, training, and supervision of all subordinates.  The Finishing Superintendent is responsible for helping create subordinate My Goals, reviewing them, and communicating results to the subordinates.   The incumbent must support and implement company policies as required.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  1. Responsible for establishing and attaining predetermined production goals through the efficient utilization of available equipment, personnel and material.
  2. Responsible for establishing and maintaining standard downstream practices for control of production methods, quality, personnel, 5S and cost.
  3. Responsible for establishing and overseeing department rules for safety, environmental, discipline and work procedures within the corporate and quality management guidelines.
  4. Recommend and assist with implementation of capital expenditures to provide more efficient and higher quality production.
  5. Responsible for recruiting, training, evaluating, and motivating employees to achieve department objectives.
  6. Collaborates with other managers, departments and services to maintain coordinated efficiencies of operations.
  7. Accountable for proper operation and utilization of equipment to prevent damage and minimize repairs.
  8. Accountable for the administration of personnel policies and carrying out company policies and programs.
  9. Accountable for employee safety, turnover, attendance control, and administration of discipline.
  10. Responsible for managing the departmental budget and meeting EMM goals.
  11. Accountable for and completing all required annual safety and environmental training.
  12. Accountable for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in clean up of spills.
  13. Expected to know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
  14. Enforce environmental compliance to procedures, practices and regulations within the department.
  15. Accountable for conducting crew meetings to establish communication and cover safety, environmental, quality, cost/delivery, and departmental concerns.
