Gerdau Special Steel North America is an engineered bar producer headquartered in Jackson, Michigan with world-class steel manufacturing mills in Jackson, Michigan, Monroe Michigan, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, and a metal processing facility in Huntington, Indiana.


With engineered steel bar producing capabilities in North America and Brazil, the Gerdau Special Steel group is one of the largest suppliers of SBQ engineered steel bars to the global automotive and heavy truck industries.




Responsible for administering the Human Resource processes to include: recruitment and selection; employee relations, wage and salary administration, employee benefits administration, training and development, career and succession, performance management, safety, policy interpretation and administration, labor relations, and the coordination of company-sponsored employee services and activities.




  • HR Policies/Procedures: Administer human resources plans and procedures for all location personnel; assist in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepare and maintain employee handbook and policies and procedures manual.
  • Communications: Coordinate employee communication to promote employee understanding of programs, policies, and objectives.
  • Employee Relations: Counsel supervisory personnel on employee relation matters, including employee discipline, and resolution of employee grievances.
  • Recruitment & Selection: Conduct recruitment efforts for open positions and support hiring managers in the selection process (from cultural fit, competency, behavior standpoints).
  • Compensation: Ensure uniform interpretation and application of wage and salary policy to provide internally equitable employee compensation; helps maintain job descriptions and evaluations on an accurate and current basis. Communicate total compensation opportunities to employees and respond to employee questions related to applicable Compensation plans and programs.
  • Training and development: Assist in identifying training needs and work with the corporate training team to implement programs. Facilitates training sessions locally when applicable.
  • Engagement: Organize employee engagement activities.
  • Benefits: Perform benefits administration and communicating benefits information to employees.
  • Performance Management:  Coordinate performance reviews and performance improvement processes for all employees; ensure consistent application of corporate policies and procedures.
  • Career & Succession:  Coordinate C&S cycles, local people development committees, 360º degree feedback surveys, and competency assessments; ensure consistent application of corporate policies and procedures.
  • Personnel Planning.
  • Record Keeping: Establish and maintain adequate personnel records for past and present employees.
  • Goal Setting: Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.  Assist in the evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of the department in relation to established goals.  Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of departments and services performed.
  • Compliance: Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Support the HR Manager with labor relations.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.




  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of HR administration
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills




  •         Undergraduate degree required in human resources, business administration, or related field
  • 5-7 years experience
  • PHR/SPHR preferred
