Non-Ferrous Scrap Inspector and Scale Coordinator - Fargo
Job Summary:
Perform a variety of coordinating, checking, verifying, inputting, recording, and filing duties pertaining primarily to the receipt and inspection of scrap coming into the mill by truck. The primary duty of this position is to properly inspect and verify scrap grade and order number.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Act as weighmaster to properly weigh incoming and outgoing trucks, Utilize electronic scales to obtain a gross weight for the load using the weighing system and coordinate unloading destination with yard and melt shop personnel. Receive bill of lading from truck driver and resolve discrepancies between the bill of lading and the scrap load by determining if the scrap load grade should be adjusted up or down in accordance with established limits of approved company policies and procedures, referring questionable cases to the supervisor.

Consult with the scrap representatives and the scrap supplier for clarification on scrap grade prices.

Give a copy of the weight ticket verifying the weight information to the driver and receive verification of the scrap ticket from the driver after unloading. Complete the weighing process to determine traffic and net weight for the load.

On dealer scrap, give the completed copy of the weight ticket to the driver. Place the Gerdau copy of the ticket in file and enter scrap details into the scrap receiving system.

On retail scrap, input weight ticket information into the mainframe file using scrap receiving system to generate a check.

Issue check in proper amount to scrap supplier. Review the check for accuracy and sign on the authorization line.

Give the check and the weight ticket to the driver.

Process loads of scrap by weighing the trucks in accordance with standard processing procedures. (Traffic volume ranges from 75-100 dealer trucks per day and 10-25 retail trucks per day).

Provide daily reporting of scrap activity to appropriate purchasing and accounting personnel.

Using established company procedures, visually inspect scrap for grade/quality.

Notifies supervisor when dirty cars or trucks are identified or cars or trucks that monitoring devices indicate contain explosive or radioactive materials.

Compile and record information related to scrap inventory. Monitor supply of scrap in melt shop.
Additional Responsibilities:

Input brokered tickets into the mainframe scrap receiving system when there are no trucks.

Maintain inventory file records.

Assist in nonferrous processing; including segregation of materials to upgrade products. For example: Copper, Brass, Aluminum, etc.

Some physical Labor work required.

Responsible for receiving, inspect, grade, and communicating processing requirements for inbound and outbound raw materials. This will include determining the grade and deductions/downgrades when necessary. The Scrap Inspector must communicate regularly with coworkers and customers about the quality of material and shipping requirements. They are the primary point of contact for customers entering the yard and a key factor in terms of customer service, quality control, and safety.
