This position will assist with and implement Asset Reliability Process at site to improve safety, equipment reliability and product quality at optimum costs. Accountable for implementing and sustaining Asset Reliability Process (ARP) and maintaining equipment at optimal efficiency at optimal cost. This position leads ARP practice implementation and improvement having maintenance and operations as customers.  Will provide technical leadership for using predictive technologies to detect potential failures.  They will work with the operating and maintenance personnel, engineering and suppliers to determine and implement improved engineered designs and procedures based on studying the operation and failures to lower costs and improve equipment reliability and energy efficiency.  The Reliability Engineer  will ensure the integrity of the CMMS and standard procedures.  Activities require engineering and or Maintenance based experience in mechanical and/or electrical equipment used in steel mill processes and facilities and demonstrated expertise in asset reliability technology and systems.




  1. Work with Reliability Leadership to develop plans and execute plans to achieve World Class performance using Asset Reliability Process.


  1. Complying with company policy and procedure.  Insures timely completion within specifications and compliance with appropriate rules and regulations affecting this area.


  1. Develop solutions that facilitate continuous improvement through new designs and innovative approaches to production processes.


  1. Provide technical expertise and leadership to solve operational and department problems with permanent solutions. Provide recommendations for major modifications, renovations, installations, additions and replacements of facilities and equipments.


  1. Analyze mill performance from an operational standpoint, present findings, and work with teams to implement methods to improve performance.


  1. Establish working criteria for outside vendors and consultants as required. 


  1. Support planning and scheduling standard process to effectively execute all outages.


  1. Develop, coordinate and support predictive maintenance practices to identify pending equipment failures utilizing technologies such as, vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasound, motor circuit analysis, etc.  Bring technologies and expertise in-house when merited.


  1. Participate in FMEA and SRCM studies on equipment and develop corrective action plans to maximize availability and reliability.


  1. Look for opportunities to replace or improve intrusive PM inspections and time based change or replacement procedures with non-intrusive Predictive Maintenance techniques or other inspection tools from the ARP wherever it is economically viable.


  1. Oversee procedures to maintain and update the following equipment documentation: description, job plans, spare parts, equipment lists, histories, manuals, flow sheet documentation, drawings, specifications, etc.


  1. Perform delay, outage and maintenance cost analysis and facilitate improvement plans with operations and maintenance.


  1. Analyze equipment repair history, costs and repetitive repairs to develop/implement proactive repair planning.


  1. Use SRCM to identify critical spares and coordinate with maintenance, procurement and stores to identify critical component needs and critical material needs and establish re-order points/quantities to ensure components are on site or quickly sourced to minimize downtime.


  1. Assist in the identification of training and skill development needs for plant personnel to support both ARP and maintenance.



The Individual


Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering, or other related field.  Requires 3 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment and/or with ARP or Maintenance.  Requires the ability to train people and serve as a coach to employees. The incumbent should possess solid presentation abilities combined with good interpersonal and organizational skills.


This position directly reports to the ARP Manager. The incumbent will coordinate efforts with the different functional groups both within area of responsibility and other areas of the location. The incumbent would be detail oriented and must be comfortable dealing with associates at all levels within the organization. The incumbent will be responsible for the oversight, contribution to, and support of all the training and development activities for employees of the location.
