Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or other appropriate technical discipline and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in safety compliance in a steel mill or other related industry
  • 3-5 years’ facilitation experience in problem solving, communication, quality improvement and other typical facilitation experience strongly preferred
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred
  • Knowledge of federal Safety regulations and familiarity with steel mill or similar heavy industrial operations
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and best practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, leadership and outside parties
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws related to Worker's Compensation
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office suite
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Your Purpose:

You will be responsible for providing effective and professional Safety leadership to improve the industrial health and safety of all employees at the Gerdau – Charlotte, NC mill.  You will provide oversight and support for the mill’s Health and Safety programs and will assist management with the strategic improvements of existing management accountability systems aimed at preventing and controlling safety incidents for all levels of the organization; identifying, delivering training, and improving communication systems to effectively communicate safety and health issues.

 

Your Work:

  • Keep up-to-date with federal and state safety regulations
  • Participate in safety inspections, observations, and incident investigations
  • Act as liaison with OSHA inspections and correspondence
  • Assists with developing skills training and operating procedures' training modules
  • Responsible for carrying out corporate, plant and departmental policies and programs
  • Monitor plant operations to detect, report and ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations
  • Responsible for effective supervision and direction of hourly and exempt employees under his/her direction
  • Lead and facilitate Safety Hour activities and corporate safety activities
  • Drive Annual Action plans, key performance indicators (KPIs) and capex projects that support the company vision, core values, business case, EHS policy, and other business needs
