You Have: 

  • The desire to learn new roles and grow with the company.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of industrial or manufacturing experience.
  • The ability to work a 12-hour rotating Dupont schedule, days, nights, and two weekends a month.
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Basic math skills, problem-solving, ability to multi-task.

 

Your Purpose:
You will perform a variety of counting, calculating and posting of billets cast and placed in billet yard. Identify any quality issues with billets and communicate to appropriate personnel. 

 

Your Work:

  • Monitor and record the flow of steel billets from casting to the billet yard for cooling and storage, loaded on trailer for shipment, or charged for reheat furnace.  Confer with Billet Heat Recorder on previous shift to determine rolling order, number of billets in heat being charged, and overall status of mill operations.
  • Verify with lab technician the correct heat number, grade and length of billet being cast.  Observe casting of billets.
  • Count billets cast and direct crane operator where to place billets.
  • Physically inspect billets for camber, correct length, shape, and any surface defects.  Determine billets that should be scraped and direct crane operator to remove scrap billets.
  • Scrape scale off tops of billets and write applicable heat number on each billet and record each heat cast on heat cast reports noting scraped billets and any issues with billet quality.
  • Using company established procedures paint each stack of billets using a color coded system.
  • Reconcile all heats cast and all heats cast and stacked in the yard and subtracting heats charged and or shipped.
  • Update billet inventory map by adding heats cast and stacked in the yard and subtracting heats charged and or shipped.
  • Provide necessary documentation of products loaded onto trucks, calculate weight of load and place dunnage between billet layers.
  • Provide count information to Melting Shift Supervisor.
  • Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, and/ or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clear and orderly fashion.  Follow all safety regulations and practices.
  • Inform casting supervisor of any billet quality problems.
