Your Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in engineering, machine design discipline, or equivalent experience, preferably mechanical or industrial engineering.
- Knowledge of rolling mill pass design, with a preference toward structural steel product pass design. Minimum of 5 years mechanical design/pass design or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge and experience in CAD software technologies and mechanical design work.
- Knowledge of lathe operations, including CAM programming for lathe operations. Machine cutting.
- Must be able to read and comprehend a variety of measuring devices.
- Knowledge of ASTM specifications.
- Strong working knowledge of the steel manufacturing methods and techniques involving the use of heavy mill machinery and related equipment is preferred.
- Experience with structural steel rolling operations is a plus.
- Experience with rolling mill product commissioning from pre-commissioning through commercialization of the finished product.
- Experience with roll and guide shop operations.
- Interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively and constructively in a dynamic and changing work environment.
- Must be able to function individually and as part of a team.
- Must show an eagerness to take on added responsibilities and leadership roles over time.
- Project management is a plus.
Your Purpose:
You will provide support to the Rolling Mill Department by developing and commissioning new products, improving current processes, revising process parameters and assist with design updates.
Your Work:
- Pass design activities including but not limited to new product development, existing roll, pass, and guide design refinement, product commissioning responsibilities, etc.
- Performing accurate analysis and designing effective solutions to a variety of product/process issues.
- Design, detail, and procure guide equipment in the mill.
- Revise guide, mill rolls, passes, and mill equipment drawings.
- Interact with various facility departments to ensure optimal operation and maintenance of rolling equipment.
- Assist with drawings modification, redesign of mill equipment, and compiling reports, including roll, guide, bearing, and chock inventory.
- Generate and assist in compiling reports, including roll inventory.
- Work with Senior Process Engineers, vendors, and other outside resources to stay updated on steel mill rolling technologies and innovations to prevent obsolescence and ensure we achieve and maintain a technological advantage in the marketplace.
- The position requires to work on nights or weekend periodically to be available for product commissioning and specific product changes.
- Get stakeholders buy in for the project scope & high-level timeliness.
