This is your purpose:

Must complete complex tasks, which are somewhat repetitive in nature, and require extreme care in selecting computer settings from menu driven system and setting control panel devices to operate stacker and banding machines.  Operate connecting conveyor systems in sequential and coordinated fashion so as not to damage product and maintain maximum material flow.  Assist in coordinating Rolling Mill Finishing End activities including stacking, bundling, tying, and transferring hot rolled steel products.


What you will do:

  • Assist in changing rolls on the straightener.
  • Count and report number of bars that enter and leave the cooling bed.
  • Operate band saw to line up and cut bars to specifications.
  • Operate band saw to obtain a sample for Product Control Operator and Quality Engineering Department to measure conformance to specifications.
  • Inspect bar quality for surface defects and to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Ensure proper bundle disposition, i.e., piece count and heat separation.
  • Operate conveyor from pulpit to move finished product from conveyors to automatic strappers.
  • Operate cold saw/shear from pulpit to line up and cut the finished product to specifications.
  • Use computer to print tags with product information and manually place tags on bars.
  • Use spray can to properly identify bundles and distinguish between heats.


What you have:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • General math skills, advanced problem solving, ability to multi-task, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to use charts, schedules, and touchscreens when applicable.
  • Interpretation in the use of adjustable controls in regulating the continuous process through interpretation of measuring instruments and gauges.
  • Acquired competency of all responsibilities under Roll Shop Utility position.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the Roll Shop is preferred.
