Reporting to the Roll Shop Supervisor, this position’s main focus will be to set up and operate a numerically controlled lathe to machine all types of new and used rolls to finished size and contour for all sections rolled in the mill.


What You Will Do

  • Carry out the machining of worn and new steel mill rolls in various materials including cast iron, toolsteel, and carbide, using two CNC roll turning lathes (Fanuc controllers)
  • Use profile templates to visually confirm results and identify non-conformities in the machined profiles. Skillful and methodical manipulation of the CNC and programming resources to over come tool deflection and tool wear, to attain proper template fit.
  • Perform CNC milling operations to refurbish contoured profiles of cast iron guiding equipment. (VF4 HAAS).
  • Operate 20 ton overhead crane to load and unload mill rolls from lathes.
  • Follow established routine procedures for the completion of all machining tasks.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent general education.
  • General machinist license.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a conventional & CNC machining environment.
  • Must be able to read and understand CNC programs
  • Crane experience is desirable
  • Experience in manufacturing industry
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule (continental style schedule); 12-hour shifts
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, use a wide variety of tools and possess an eagerness to learn
  • Possesses strong communication skills, strong math ability and a good work ethic

Additional Information

  • All successful candidates must pass a post-medical and ergonomic assessment.
