Rolling Mill Clerk

Job Summary:


Perform various clerical office duties pertaining to steel mill roll shop, finishing end, and rolling mill maintenance operations including but not limited to:  electronic data entry, word processing, calculating, scheduling, conducting inventories, preparing reports and maintaining records.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Operate various computer software programs to create a variety of spreadsheets including, but not limited to, tracking various melt shop systems failures, and reports.  Type from handwritten text, notes and verbal instruction, a variety of letters, reports, logs, meeting minutes and related items.  Use form letters, memorandums and reports for routine matters from knowledge of established practices.
  2. Collect, calculate and summarize information daily and by shift from various sources to prepare production indexes to include material consumption, material receiving reports, etc.
  3. Physically check inventories of process materials daily, release shipment of process materials according to production requirements, process beginning and ending inventory amounts, production and yield reports.  Prepare, verify for accuracy, copy and distribute various inventory reports to designated personnel.
  4. Prepare and process purchase requisitions as necessary.
  5. Using established company procedures, maintain and update preventative maintenance records.
  6. Prepare and post weekly work and vacation schedules.
  7. Prepare and report daily score card results, production graphs, and summary information to Mill Controller/Accountant.
  8. Verify time card information for accuracy in Kronos system. Assist as needed to investigate errors. Keeps the forced overtime list updaqted and posted.
  9. Maintain record of employee PTO and vacation usage; answer employee questions on vacation and PTO reserves and assist in scheduling.
  10. Set up appointments and type correspondence for the Rolling Mill Superintendent.
  11. Complete temporary rate authorizations and payroll adjustment vouchers; serve as contact person for Corporate Payroll regarding pay discrepancies or problems in department.
  12. Pick up, sort and distribute mail to Rolling Mill.  Answer telephones; take and relay messages.
  13. Assist with the completion of month end and physical inventory of Rolling Mill.  Potential evening once a month.


Additional Responsibilities:


  1. Maintain adequate supply  of forms, and office supplies. Perform all necessary copying, filing and distribution of reports, employee injury forms, preventive maintenance orders, safety inspection sheets, rolling schedules, etc.
  2. Perform various other office, clerical and administrative duties needed to support the efforts of the Rolling Mill Superintendent.

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years’ experience providing administrative support in an office or industrial setting.
  • Payroll and Accounts Payable experience preferred.
  • Software Experience: MS Office products, especially Excel
  • SAP preferred
  • Problem solving capabilities
  • High volume processing experience
  • Strong listening and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail; dependable and flexible
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment, as well with customers and external parties
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment
