Basic Function
The Shop Supervisor-Electrical is responsible for analyzing job request received from various departments for priority, necessary manpower and material requirements. Assign personnel to perform the job and follow up to completion.
Nature and Scope
Primary responsibilities include: organizing down day/outage activities with other departments, determine manpower requirements and ensure necessary material and manpower are available. Assign work and follow through.
This job reports to the Assistant Maintenance Superintendent and indirectly to the Superintendent of Maintenance. Reporting to the incumbent directly is Controls Technicians, Electricians, and Utility Supervisor-Electrical.
This job requires a strong electrical background, especially in PLC operations/programming, high voltage equipment, overhead cranes and AC /DC equipment operations. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Strong interpersonal skills with others you will be associated with. A good understanding of maintenance/production operations in all facets of the Melt Shop/Rolling Mill.
Principal Accountabilities
- Responsible for the electrical maintenance of all equipment and support equipment in the plant.
- Responsible for maintaining this equipment so that it is reliable, efficient and dependable within the maintenance quality objectives.
- Responsible for electrical maintenance and repairs of all plant facility and equipment within the areas.
- Analyze job requests received from various departments for priority, necessary manpower and material requirements. Order and receive material. Assign personnel to perform the job and follow up to completion.
- Organize down day/outage activities with other departments, determine manpower requirements and ensure necessary material and manpower are available. Assign work and follow through.
- Responsible for minimizing downtime which will lower costs incurred due to machine downtime and insure production will meet all production goals.
- Respond to emergency calls involving equipment shutdown that may affect output of material flow and/or quality.
- Work with other departments on projects i.e., new equipment installations and overhauling or upgrading of existing equipment to ensure maximum safe operating conditions of the plant.
- Ensure assigned personnel work in a safe and timely manner, manage break times, determine and order necessary materials so that work force and accomplish objectives in the minimum time possible.
- Assign routine preventive maintenance to personnel and follow through to completion and document.
- Work closely with other maintenance supervisors to ensure smooth transition on assigned jobs.
- Responsible to use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to administer spare parts, purchase material and services, PM and work order development, and the development of asset information.
- Hold monthly safety and crew meetings with 100% attendance.
- Attend staff meetings with the Maintenance Superintendent.
- Responsible for recruiting, training, evaluating, and motivating employees to achieve department objectives.
- Coordinated and ensure coverage due to call-offs and vacation days on back turns.
- Maintain communication channel to implement departmental goals.
- Responsible for administering personnel policies and carrying out company policies and programs.
- Responsible for administering the policies and procedures of current Quality Systems.
- Responsible for reviewing procedures with crew.
- Responsible for departmental housekeeping.
- Responsible for ensuring that the maintenance personal adheres to all safety policies.
- Responsible are ensuring that the Cardinal Safety Rules are followed.
- Responsible for utilizing the Gerdau Business Systems within the Maintenance Department.
- Responsible for working within the EMM processes.
- Responsible for and completing all required annual safety and environmental training.
- Tasks which have significant environmental impacts are (i.e. Process pond water, spill prevention, containment and response, RCRA waste, KO61 Dust (bag house dust) pms, and calibration of equipment.
- Employee is expected to know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
- Enforce environmental compliance to procedures, practices and regulations within the department.
- Ensure environmental compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations within the department.
