The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the Purchasing Manager and the Storeroom Supervisor in the administration of the department.

 

  • Maintain the accuracy of all receipts on service, consumable and refractory orders
  • Balance storeroom receipts
  • Set up new suppliers in PLEX and making additions and changes to the PLEX vendor table and approved supplier list
  • Place orders for all office supplies plant wide
  • Maintain files and keeps records organized and up-to-date
  • Maintain Barcode Parts Management (BPM) system

Secondary:            

 

  • Administer the direct-issue safety shoe/clothing program
  • Assist in orders and releases for alloys, additives and fluxes in Purchasing Manager’s absence
  • Update and maintain department SOP’s
  • Department facilitator the quality management system (ISO/TS/QS)

 

TRAINING AND/OR BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:

 

The Purchasing Clerk should have a minimum of 1 year of purchasing, inventory control or accounting experience; preferably in a steel or steel-related environment.  A working

knowledge of ISO/QS/TS. Computer skills including Microsoft Office especially spreadsheets and data base management programs are required. DOT training is required every 3 years.

 

QUALITY-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Quality related responsibilities are interfacing with suppliers on MRO items that directly affect quality; involvement with quality management system implementation in the purchasing department (i.e. training, maintenance of records), and ensuring that our customer’s requirements are clearly conveyed to MRO suppliers when appropriate (i.e. purchase orders).

 

SAFETY-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Administer the direct-issue safety shoe/clothing program for employees. Observe and follow division general and department safety policies.

        

COST/PRODUCTION RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Assist in negotiation with MRO suppliers to ensure the lowest “total cost” to the division and assist Storeroom Supervisor in training of Lean concepts.

 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Observe and follow all general and departmental environmental regulations.  Complete annual environmental training, if applicable.
