Basic Function:

 

Responsible for providing basic first aid to all employees, evaluating an employee's health and assuring proper care and return to work, maintaining employee health records, as well as appraising the safety and health hazards in the work environment. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Administer first aid/medical treatment to employees or persons who sustain injuries or become ill on company premises.  Refer serious or unresponsive cases to the company physician or as needed.
  2. Support contractor EMTs.
  3. Facilitate location response to any health crisis (such as COVID).
  4. Maintains treatment room in safe and orderly condition, orders medications, equipment, and supplies for mill first aid stations and first aid room.
  5. Administer location worker's comp program.
  6. Facilitates location first responder program, including recruitment and training.
  7. Coordinate annual health screenings for employees as needed.  Follow up on any results requiring further medical attention.  Maintain examination reports, case histories, and other records and reports as may be required.
  8. Coordinate and administer preventative health programs including but not limited to flu shots.
  9. Order prescription safety glasses as well as other special personal protective equipment when necessary.
  10. Instruct employees in the use of safety equipment such as eye, ear, respiratory protection, and protective clothing.
  11. Assist in investigations of specific health and safety hazards as well as accident investigations.

 

The Occupational Health Nurse requires superior communication (written & verbal), interpersonal, and organizational skills to maintain accurate records & confidentiality. Critical thinking ability is essential.  Strong computer skills are required to maintain reports & documentation.  The Occupational Health Nurse must be committed to continuous learning to maintain current skills and to be aware of new legislation.

 

Current proof of registration and in good standing by the college of nurses as a BN, RN, LPN, or Occupational Health Nursing Certificate designation is required.  3 - 5 years Occupational Health Nursing in a manufacturing setting, emergency experience, and ergonomic experience is preferred.
